I usually wait a lot longer before posting tracks, but I decided to post this one on impulse today. This track is about the idea of summer. Although  I produced it a few weeks ago, and since yesterday was a gorgeous day, full of sunshine and birds singing, well, it made me feel hopeful, always does. I could already imagine myself relaxing or rather having fun on the beach with my love, both enjoying the calm soothing waves. I’m a romantic, can’t help it.

For me George Best was the greatest player that ever lived, but suffered from being better at what he did than everybody else. 
At one time in my life I think I was within an inch of becoming an alcoholic and yes at the time it solved all my problems. I was rescued by a beautiful women but unfortunately George was not.
He was one of my greatest heroes and I spent a large amount of my early years trying to emulate some of his football skills. I was given the opportunity to meet him on two occasions and he was a really nice genuine man and I was really upset when he died.
My brother Brian and me completed this recording in one afternoon and he came up with the fantastic bass line, it was always our intention to develop it and take it further.

It might seem an odd idea to post a song on which Brian didn’t actually play, considering Firing Line were the first band I’d joined that didn’t have him in the line-up.  Such was my reliance on his presence that I procrastinated for some time before agreeing to join, and only then after a great deal of persuasion from him. Never sorry that I did, though, not only for the fun we had but also because it precipitated an enduring musical partnership between him and Firing Line keyboardist John Lancaster.  So here’s the band I joined over 30 years ago, playing the song after which they were named. (Gary Reeves)

I was 30 years old, been in love on more than one occasion, in a relationship and then ............................I Saw Her Face. In that one moment it became clear to me that I had never been in love before. 27 years later and we are still in love. 

A few words from my brother Gary;
For some reason, when Tel played me the song, I could hear this Bossa type beat within what he was playing and he let me just run with that idea until we arrived at this.  We owe an awful lot to the TLSS department at Homerton Hospital, particularlystudio engineers Nick and Camillo, without whom the track wouldn't sound anywhere near as good as it does.  All the TLSS staff are so helpful and kind, it's a joy to visit the studio there.

Having found this rather good riff on Bri's computer, clearly him just noodling around with an idea and only just over a minute in length, I wanted to do something with it but wasn't sure exactly what.  I'm a great admirer of Betty's work and tentatively asked her if she'd like to work on it and make it into something worth posting.  Boy, did she turn it into something worth posting.  Throughout the process, she couldn't have been more kind, helpful and hard-working and I want to pass on my warmest gratitude, not only for her skill, but for her unfailing friendship. Root Division were a recording-only band, formed as a vehicle for Terry’s foray into songwriting.  Recorded in a dusty attic, not an easy place in which to install a one-legged bass player, and using an old 4-track recorder, these early eighties sessions are remembered with great fondness, not least for our old friend John Palmer(1951-1988). Have uploaded newly remastered version today, 8 May 2014.  Our grateful thanks to Adrian Heathcote (http://www.reverbnation.com/adrianheathcote) for restoring them to mint condition. A combination of  my brother Bri's great guitar break and it's simplicity makes this song one of my favourites...I still like it today.  The song depicts an argument between partners with a simple solution.  Listen to the song,  life is so easy when you know how. Ha ha ha! (Terry Reeves)

Todays Nightmare

I spent my youth trying to become the next George Best but by the late 70s it was clear that I did not have the talent required and because of my single mindedness about this pursuit I think my eldest brother Brian was absolutely shocked when he received 3 songs written and performed by me on a cassette tape in the post.

This was the start of "Root Division" and without my two brothers’ talent and input it would not have existed. In addition to myself, Terry Reeves, my two brothers Brian Reeves and Gary Reeves, John Palmer (a bass player from my brothers' previous bands) he was a very encouraging influence on every thing I wrote and I owe him a lot. I would like every body to know that we had such a good time through out the existence of the band and I don’t remember a time when we were not laughing at one time or another.As there are only two of us left the band will no longer be producing anymore music so this is a celebration of Root Division’s beginning to end. I hope you enjoy.
