Culture Dub Records is proud to announce "Babylon Is At War" by israeli militant singer Merav Stylee. Two Stepper tracks with conscious lyrics, riddims produced by Mighty Stepper, mixed, dubbed and mastered by Mixmonster in his Tel Aviv's studio, with an artwork by Wrap Up a Draw, for Free Download!

Babylon Is At War is Merav Stylee’s first recorded project. Merav is an Israeli singer who grew up in France and Belgium. She’s been active in the reggae and dub scenes for over 30 years, working with various artists, but never recording her own songs, until now. To create this EP, Merav Stylee teamed up with producer Mighty Pepper and sound engineer Mixmonster. "Babylon Is At War" was recorded, mixed, dubbed and mastered at Mixmonster’s studio in Tel Aviv. The EP discusses themes of government oppression such as vaccine passports and the tracking of society through technological means. These are conscious tunes calling for the people to wake up!

"Babylon Is At War" est le premier projet de Merav Stylee, chanteuse israélienne qui a grandi en France et en Belgique. Merav Stylee est active sur la scène Reggae Dub depuis plus de 30 ans, travaillant avec divers artistes, mais n'enregistrant jamais ses propres chansons, jusqu'à présent. Pour créer l'EP "Babylon Is At War", Merav Stylee s'est associée au producteur Mighty Pepper et à l'ingénieur du son Mixmonster. Les quatre titres ont été enregistrés, mixés, dubbés et masterisés au studio de Mixmonster à Tel Aviv. Sur 'Killing' et 'Babylon Is At War', Merav Stylee partage ses convictions sans concession, parlant de l'oppression gouvernementale, des passeports vaccinaux et de la surveillance du peuple par des moyens technologiques. Des paroles engagées, appelant à une prise de conscience !

Avec ce morceau inspiré du boom bap new-yorkais, Roots Raid marque une incursion hors du reggae, leur style de prédilection, pour explorer l’univers du hip-hop old-school. Le beat repose sur des sonorités caractéristiques du boombap : une rythmique percutante, des basses profondes et des samples travaillés, évoquant les productions classiques de la scène new-yorkaise des années 90.


Au chant, Marina P apporte une touche singulière avec des paroles en anglais, écritent sous forme de haïku, un poème japonais court et épuré, souvent porteur d’une morale subtile, à la manière des fables de Jean de La Fontaine. Ce choix renforce l’aspect minimaliste et contemplatif du morceau, contrastant avec l’énergie brute du beat hip-hop.


En s’essayant à différents styles, Roots Raid et Marina P démontrent ici leur capacité à fusionner les genres, créant un pont entre reggae, hip-hop et poésie

With this track inspired by New York boom bap, Roots Raid marks a foray beyond reggae, their preferred style, to explore the world of old-school hip-hop. The beat is based on the characteristic sounds of boombap: a punchy rhythm, deep bass, and elaborate samples, evoking the classic productions of the 90s New York scene.

On vocals, Marina P brings a unique touch with English lyrics written in the form of haiku, a short and refined Japanese poem, often conveying a subtle moral, similar to the fables of Jean de La Fontaine. This choice reinforces the minimalist and contemplative aspect of the track, contrasting with the raw energy of the hip-hop beat.

By experimenting with different styles, Roots Raid and Marina P demonstrate their ability to blend genres, creating a bridge between reggae, hip-hop, and poetry.

Roots Raid est né en 2011 sous l’impulsion de deux amis musiciens/producteurs Natty Bass, guitariste et bassiste & Bongo B, percussionniste. Ils fondent leur propre label Berry’s
Records et créent leur studio analogique dans lequel ils conceptualisent et réalisent plus d’une dizaine de maxis vinyles depuis 2014 avec de prestigieux MCs et invités (Shanti D, Danman, Peter Youthman, Mighty Cricket)..
Après un premier opus «From the top» sorti en 2014, et une centaine
de dates en France et à l’international (Allemagne, Autriche, Belgique, Espagne, Portugal, Norvège...),
Roots Raid revient avec son deuxième album « NUIT BLANCHE» composé de 18 morceaux sur le label ODGprod. Un double album sur lequel les toasters Cookah et Likkle Ferguson viennent poser leurs voix et leurs textes. Avec «NUIT BLANCHE», Roots Raid réinvente son style, à la croisée des genres, entre deep dub, stepper, bass music, cumbia et neo soul, tout en puisant dans les racines des débuts roots et reggae.
Un double album éclectique et assumé qui reflète les influences qui ont inspiré Roots Raid sur les 4 dernières années. Un projet enrichi par de nombreuses collaborations et featuring: Panda Dub, Dawa Hifi, Mael Cageron..
Après un single « Rooty Cowboy » co-produit avec Panda Dub en avril 2022, qui évoquait le voyage initiatique d’un jeune Cowboy devenant adulte, Nuit Blanche explore de nombreux univers, de la voie lactée (« Calling the universe », « Milky Way »…), aux temps modernes (« Modern Times ») en passant par la transidentité (« Transgender »).

Roots Raid was born in 2011 under the leadership of two musicians/producers friends Natty Bass, guitarist and bassist & Bongo B, percussionist.

They founded their own label Berry's Records and created their analog studio in Tours in which they conceptualized and produced more than ten maxi vinyls since 2014 with prestigious MCs and guests (Shanti D, Danman, Peter Youthman, Mighty Cricket, etc.) .

After a first opus “From the top” focused on dub, roots and rub a dub released in 2014, and around a hundred dates in France and internationally (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Norway, etc.), Roots Raid returns with his second album “NUIT BLANCHE” composed of 18 tracks on the ODGprod label. A double album on which the toasters Cookah and Likkle Ferguson add their voices and lyrics. With “NUIT BLANCHE”, Roots Raid reinvents its style, at the crossroads of genres, between deep dub, stepper, bass music, cumbia and neo soul, while drawing on the roots of early roots and reggae.

An eclectic and assertive double album which reflects the influences which have inspired Roots Raid over the last 4 years. A project enriched by numerous collaborations and featuring: Panda Dub, Dawa Hifi, Mael Cageron.

After a single “Rooty Cowboy” co-produced with Panda Dub in April 2022, which evoked the initiatory journey of a young Cowboy becoming an adult, Nuit Blanche explores numerous universes, from the Milky Way (“Calling the universe”, “Milky Way”…), to modern times (“Modern Times”) through transidentity (“Transgender”).
