Organic Disco

Teesside's brand new disco outfit touches down with a funky thud this June in an old industrial warehouse space in central Middlesbrough.

This months guest DJ - Al Kent - hails from the naughty side of our northern border and is one of contemporary disco's most respected faces.

Despite his reputation as a digger and his background in rare soul and disco, Al is no musical snob when it comes to DJing. He knows how to move a dance-floor with music that ranges from the most obscure disco to bona-fide classics. It's his edits that elevate him beyond the normal conception of a "disco DJ" though. If you thought disco was music for the back room, think again.. Al's sound is big and bad, perfectly mixed in a way Ron Hardy would be proud of. His style has earned him serious praise from many of his peers like Sadar Bahar, Mike Huckaby, Theo Parrish, Rahaan, Red Rack'em, Joey Negro (who once famously called him Scotland's answer to Walter Gibbons), Dimitri From Paris and Horse Meat Disco.

Fresh from lending his sublime scalpel skills to Editorial as part of the label's latest multi-artist extravaganza, C Da Afro returns to Disco Fruit with another tasty two-track missive. The Grecian producer is in predictably fine form on chunky, bass-heavy opener "Music Is Love", where dubbed-out vocal snippets, jazzy guitar motifs, swirling strings and fuzzy organ riffs cluster around a rubbery, all action disco-house groove. "Sugar Love" is an altogether more synth heavy beast, with C Da Afro applying his successful formula - all beefed-up bottom end and excitement building filter sweeps - to a dazzling slab of colourful '80s Euro-boogie goodness.

It was after getting laid off from his job that he decided to purchase a controller and start learning how to mix. Since then, he has fallen in love with providing good vibes on the dance floor and in your headphones and home speakers. He has DJ’d all over his hometown at places like The Big Dirty, Sam Bond’s, Cowfish, Thinking Tree Spirits, and many others.

His enthusiasm for dancing and appreciating amazing shows has shaped him to always make his sets and performances memorable. He realizes it’s about the people in the crowd and creating a selection of hospitable vibes that invite you to come back for more.

Rortron is the kind of guy you can feel comfortable introducing to your parents. He is always moving and smiling when he DJ’s. He will never be pretentious and patronizing to anyone who comes to his shows or listens to his mixes and music. He always shows love to the sound, security, bookers, and bartenders.
