Africa is one of Earth's continents. Its area of ​​30.2 million km² corresponds to approximately 20% of the planet's total land area, and it has a population of approximately 1.4 billion people (2022). This makes it the second-largest continent after Asia, both in terms of area and population. Almost all African states are members of the United Nations and the African Union. The continent's raw materials and arable land are of increasing importance to African countries, as well as to the industrialized and emerging economies that trade with them.
