You might be listening to house or on your house boat, doing your house chores or, like us, trying to drop more puns with "house". Thomas Stieler musically serves more facets of "house" than we can think of puns: classic, deep, minimal, driving, dubby, groovy and sometimes even technoid.

Thomas has already been with us & although he now lives in Munich, he remains connected to his homeland - not only as resident DJ at the legendary Leipzig club Distillery, but also as an integral part of the Paracou crew around Mathias Kaden. He also forged close links with Muna, one of the oldest clubs in Germany. His first EP was released by the Jena-based house institution Freude am Tanzen and marked the beginning of numerous other remarkable releases on labels such as Lauter Unfug Musik, Rotary Cocktail Recordings, My King is Light and Blind Vision Records.

VinylOnly - glides steadily forward like a waterfall, without sinking into Randomness. 

If you only listen with only half of your ear, you'll be missing most of it.

For the month of April's 'Live' mix we welcome 2 legends from the dub techno scene that we were super happy to welcome behind the Eastern Bloc Decks.

First up 'Ohm' (bjarnar jonsson) the Icelandic producer who has been heavily involved within the scene for the past 30 years steps up with releases on some of dub techno's biggest hitters including Thule records, Kontakt, Taped Artifact, Vade mecum, Vuo records and AE Recordings which he co-ran with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records. A label owner himself his 'Ohm Series' label has been steadily releasing music since 2021.

Alongside him 'Kvadrant' (Johnny Fredsgaard) a Danish producer who was a resident on the legendary TweakFM, and runs one of the most healthy and well respected dub techno labels out there currently- Kontakt records. With past artists including - Substance, Mike Schommer, Grad_U, Ohm, VRIL, JS Zeiter, Luke Hess & Octal Industries.

I'm sure you'll agree it's a beautifully put-together 4 hours of deep washy goodness.

" Myself and Johnny came over to honour an invite from our brothers in Music : Quadrant Soundscape. When we first came the place felt small, a little pub thing, but we felt good, the vibe in there just felt good. The hosts started playing some good tracks, the sound system felt big in such a small place. 

We started and it got packed, in such a way that it felt perfect to play some records for the crowd. I love small clubs with big systems and Eastern Bloc was the real deal. Four hours we played, one record at a time and the mood and vibe just kept building. Lots of happy people listening and dancing, it felt surreal and I would do it over and over again. "

As a student in Greifswald in mid-2009, Bertha tasted the sweet drops that MV's underground scene has always provided for its connoisseurs for the very first time.
ROSA was an essential part of this, sparking her passion for electronic music: Legendary nights at Tschaika, "Bahnhofshallen" or at the first ROSA club. 
Although there are only fragments left to tell, Bertha, who now lives in Leipzig, always returns with a smile back to Greifswald. 
She characterises her music in geographical terms: Early years in Hamburg, teens in MV, all flavoured by Berlin and Leipzig crumbles. Hmm?

Als Studentin in Greifswald knabberte Bertha Mitte 2009 zum ersten Mal an den süßen Träubchen, die die Subkultur MV ihren Connaisseuren schon immer geboten hat 
ROSA war dabei ein wesentlicher Bestandteil, der ihre Liebe zu elektronischer Musik entfachte: Legendäre Nächte in der Tschaika, den Bahnhofshallen oder der ersten ROSA-Location. 
Auch wenn nur noch Fragmente davon erzählen, kehrt die heute in Leipzig lebende Bertha immer wieder gern nach Greifswald zurück. 
Sie selbst beschreibt ihren Sound geografisch. Früherziehung in Hamburg, Teeniezeit in MV, garniert mit Berliner und Leipziger Streuseln. Hm?

This set was truly special, to say the least. It marked several firsts for me: my first time in Poland and my first time playing an all-original set. Leading up to it, I was caught in a wave of emotions—equal parts terrified and excited. But after that unforgettable Friday night, all I can say is WOW. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who was there, dancing to my music from start to finish. You've filled my soul to the brim! Until we meet again—hopefully on a dance floor just as magical as this one. xxxx

Vincent Montoya developed a great passion for techno music at a very early age. Growing up by the Baltic Sea, the rough and gentle sides of the sea are reflected in his track selection and mixing. He chooses his tracks carefully. He packs them with emotion, openness, sensitivity and skillful mixing into sets that capture the intimacy of the moment in front of an audience, in a club or at a festival. His mostly very long, rough and raw austerity and at the same time never-ending driving, pulsating, grooving and hypnotic textures reflect his open and creative understanding of techno as a musical style and as a lived culture. With the diversity of his tracks and his boundless understanding of art, he creates a fluid plasticity that diffuses boundaries and creates a new space without merely playing in it. At the same time, his more compressed and shorter sets don’t lack either impulsiveness nor creativity. Nevertheless, he always takes a step back and puts the sound in the foreground, which is gratefully accepted by the audience."

On May 10th, we had arranged something truly special: a rare reunion from Art Department, Jonny and Kenny back under the original banner. The day before the show, though, we got word that Jonny tested positive for COVID and would not be able to make it. To make matters worse, Kenny showed up feeling off himself—stomach problems, not doing great. For a moment, we were not sure whether the set would happen at all.

Then, after a quick pep talk (and maybe a little Johnnie Walker), Kenny decided to push through. He played the entire set from just one side of the DJ setup, leaving the other deck silent, like he was holding space for Jonny. Mid-set he passed us his phone to grab some content; somewhere between shots we pulled a South Park moment and killed Kenny’s phone, leaving him to play on, clock-free and carried by the night’s energy.

With no idea what time it was, Kenny kept the dance floor alive well past closing. It was one of the most memorable sets of the season—raw, alive, and full of heart. Kenny played for both of them, and everyone there felt it. Nights like that are why we do this. For the music, the people, and the magic you could never script.

Wir sind der Minuskumpel, von dem Mama nicht wollte, dass Du mit ihm spielst. Der aber trotzdem an einem sonnigen Tag an deiner Haustür klingelt und das Treppenhaus hinauf brüllt, um dich nach draußen zu rufen. Mit gekreuzten Fingern versprichst Du, dass Du dich nicht mit ihm rumtreiben wirst und morgen nichts im Hausaufgabenheft steht. Nimm zwei Stufen auf einmal, tritt nicht auf die Ritzen der Gehwegplatten und Essen gibt es erst, wenn der große Zeiger auf der neun ist. 

Hinterher darfst du Mama nicht sagen, woher die Grasflecken auf deiner Hose stammen, oder warum so viel Sand aus deinen Haaren rieselt. Minuskumpel hat zugeschlagen.

Habt Ihr unsere kleine Metapher verstanden? Wir, die ROSA-Gang, dein Minuskumpel aus Greifswald, haben irgendwann mal angefangen, Partykeller zu basteln, Platten zu schieben und Knöppe zu drehen. Und weil Freunde Freunde mitbrachten, schimpften die uns plötzlich „Veranstalter“. Pfff, war uns egal, dafür darf man als „Veranstalter“ Musik in riesigen Zirkuszelten spielen, darf auf betagten Passagierdampfern tanzen und alte Industriehallen aufmotzen. Wie viel Freunde wir plötzlich hatten. Hunderttausend. Mindestens. Wir sind dann in die ROSA WG gezogen, damit alle Platz haben. Eine traumhafte Techno-Wochenend-Wohn-Gemeinschaft. Dazwischen haben wir nie aufgehört, jede tanzflächenartige Ritze zu bespielen. Wir können nicht anders.

Und nun klingeln wir an deiner Haustür. Auf zur nächsten Sause. Wir sind schließlich kein Minuskumpel für eine Nacht.
