Dirk Maassen - Now And Here

I recorded "Neila's Light" using my electric dulcimer, processed through Logic Pro with Valhalla DSP effects for added depth and richness.  

It's a gentle, soothing track characterized by flowing atmospheric drones, sustained tones, cascading harmonies, and steady beats.  Minimalistic approach with rhythmic and melodic elements.

This song uses a unique chord retrogression (C, G, D, A, E) - a cycle of fifths played backwards inspired by Neila Horn in her tune, "Hey Babe."   Her chord retrogression was a new sound that became a part of many hit songs in the 1960's.  Her creative influence continues to shine through this composition.

This song on the album "Holding Freedom" is very close to my heart, as it is made up of the theme that started it all. Almost two years ago the beginning of an amazing journey commenced with one short film, "Freedom" by Glenn McGarry. This is why I needed to give the song its own album cover.  I can't wait for the future life and work together my friends :)
