Mr. Rachele is a live techno artist who embraces a truly improvisational approach with his hardware. His sound has a melodic driving quality informed by his modular synth manipulations and Elektron hardware, all purely techno. Think of luxury 1990s Euro-techno meal served with lashings of futuristic textures and rhythms, and you might be close! All his music in and out of the studio is based on his love of improvised live jamming on modular synthesizers, hardware drum machines, samplers, and hard-wired synthesizers.

Tilt Shift sits firmly left of center, a difficult-to-label square peg that unintentionally fails to fit a pigeonhole. Borrowing from the photography term, Tilt Shift refers to two different types of movement, a selective focus with a large depth of field used to control perception. This can be applied to our music policy, tilting the vertical axis resulting in a sharp area of focus without reducing the depth of field. The selective focus that can be achieved by both tilting and shifting movements, It's compelling because the effect is different from that which you may have become accustomed to. This movement is often used to avoid the convergence of parallel lines, or as we have come to think of it, it’s where the lines blur.

Jani Ho | Techno Electro Live On Hardware | Tilt Shift Tuesday 8th Oct 2024

Jani Ho, born in Finland, has lived a life surrounded by music. Moving to New York when he was 12, and then to Melbourne when he was 20, Jani has taken in a wide range of experiences and influences to create his sound, machine music with soul.

Firmly influenced by Detroit the city as well as its rich music, Jani also takes inspiration from jazz and early house music from his time growing up in New York. As a result, Jani’s live sets are built for the dance floor. Every set is unique, with fresh material constantly being produced, alongside a very improvisational live, all-hardware performance style. Jani has taken this live shows around the world over the last 2 decades, holding dj residencies at various times in Switzerland, Thailand and Australia, performing throughout Europe, Asia and the USA. Culminating in a series of stellar live shows in 2014, 2016 and 2018 over the Movement festival in city of techno's birthplace, Detroit.

The motor city is not an easy place to break in to as an electronic artist, yet this is exactly what Jani and Finn Audio have established over the years. A solid fanbase, releases on local Detroit labels and roster of high end artist from around the world for Finn Audio.
Jani has also performed alongside artists including Underground Resistance, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, HMC, Detroit Techno Militia, Will Web, Steve Rachmad and many many more, as well as a huge list of Melbourne parties for the last two decades.

2020 pandemic saw Jani release a new album Jika Jika, which has had global recognition and support from artist like Ken Ishi, Orlando Voorn, Gayteck Parisiano, Radio Slave, to name a few. Late 2020 Jani made his debut release on a legendary Detroit label, Soiree Records International with well-earned support from artist such as Laurent Garnier, Drumcell, Radioslave, Orlando Vorn, Deetron, Maceo Plex among others. Followed by another release on Soiree in 2022. Detroit Underground released, Jani Ho “Buljl Place”, a live hardware composition at Bunjil art space recorded during the pandemic and also in 2022. New releases coming out this year...The machine soul has no plans of slowing down.

Mr. Rachele is a prominent member of the modular synth community, having started Modular Theme Time Sessions back in 2019. Today it has now become an integral part of the modular synth community, not only here in Melbourne but reaching around Australian and New Zealand, with artists globally joining the community. Bringing
artists together and making music in collaborative environments, Mr Rachele’s outputs are unique, beautiful and engage audiences with a warmth that is both machine and human to its core. And now hosting a new radio show on @area3000.radio aptly named Hardware Road, where he interviews live electronic performers and producers, bringing Naarms hardware artists out from the studios and into the spotlight. Also this year under the Hardware Road banner is the only synthesiser meet in Melbourne.
