From obtuse angles to intense physicality, Peder Mannerfelt’s highly individual take on techno demands attention and consideration. While his many-sided body of work reaches back more than a decade, the Swedish producer’s current investigations in the field of experimental dance music are as prolific as they are unpredictable.

To date he has recorded an accomplished series of albums as Roll The Dice alongside Malcolm Pardon, explored a more direct strain of techno as The Subliminal Kid and also lent his production skills to Fever Ray’s acclaimed debut album and 2017’s Plunge.

It is under his own name that Mannerfelt’s sonic imprint can be most acutely felt at present. Alongside appearances on Hinge Finger, Numbers., Lazy Tapes and more, he established his own Peder Mannerfelt Produktions label to carry the bulk of his output, and that of kindred spirits like Klara Lewis, Machine Woman and Sissel Wincent. EPs such as Transmission From A Drainpipe and The 3D Printed Songbook and LPs Controlling Body and Daily Routine all feed into a distinctive abstraction of contemporary techno. It’s an approach at once engaging and challenging, rendered in even starker terms when Mannerfelt takes to the stage.

Employing subtle props and working with striking visual accompaniments, Peder Mannerfelt’s live shows bring the immediacy of his art front and centre in your cerebellum. It’s the perfect mutation of music still rooted in the kinetic energy of techno even as it seeks to break down the genre’s rigid, illusory formulae. By extension, as a DJ he spans the propulsive and the crooked, the classic and the unheard, the strange and the straight-up in a limber, instinctive fashion that complements (and is equally fueled by) his own productions.

Nick Bazzano is a Brooklyn-based DJ who affirms a tightly-wound spiral in mostly any genre. Nick is part of the UNTER core collective and also half of the DJ duo Pure Immanence. Pure Immanence has held long-running and adventurous residencies with both Bossa Nova Civic Club and UNTER ambient programming, and has also graced the decks at iconic parties and festivals including Sustain Release, Whole Festival, The Carry Nation, Merge, secondnature and more. When it's techno-time, Nick prioritizes groovy muscularity, lush sonic vistas, and a relentlessly psychedelic sense of humor.

She’s Projekt Lab resident and a member of Oramics, a collective focusing on dismantling patriarchy in the Polish scene. Monster is currently one of the most sought after DJs in the country, known for her obsession with old school techno, acid, Chicago house… and Rihanna. Solar Langevin is something of an underground hero in his native San Francisco, a hard working DJ, promoter and label boss who has spent many years supporting his local scene. Back in 1994 Solar, alongside friends Galen & J Bird, began the Sunset Sound System parties and has managed to keep up a contribution to San Francisco night life ever since. In 2014 Solar achieved international recognition via Amsterdam’s Dekmantel with invitations to play in Europe and since then has witnessed his visibility on the international stage increase. Solar has submitted a colourful and distinctive podcast for us featuring a wide array of sonic fractals blended together in a unique kaleidoscope of sound. We’re proud to be able present the work of someone who has worked hard for so long for something they love. In the short interview that follows we managed to share a few words with Solar about his work and why he does what he does.

Former military man and marching band member @jamesbangura is an artist who has roamed the world and picked up musical influences at every stop on the way. Be it drum & bass in Alabama, blog house in California or the rich house sound of New York, this Washington DC native is now distilling all those references into his own searing sounds. They have come on labels like Mister Saturday Night and can range from sauced out to brutally energetic.

And the latter of those two is what defines his unrelenting mix for us. It is a hard hitting collision of raw, decaying textures, pummeling drums and stark, post industrial atmospheres that are thrillingly harsh. The rhythms roam from the fringes of techno to the heart of jungle and on to an icy but powerful minimalism that very much consumes your body. So strap in, cause this is one helluva ride.
