New York’s @clubnightclub are back with an EP of detailed club cuts from @design-default. There’s no lack of head-scratching moments on ‘P.H.A.N.E.S’, which consists of four hyperactive hybrids including a remix from @significant0ther.

Alec Pace returns on the label for EYX007 with mind-melter ‘Future Now?’ EP, his first release since 2020’s single ‘Collider/Juno’.

In this release the Italian producer delivers three dark fast-paced club tools portraying different aspects of a dystopian futuristic world. ‘Future Now?’ takes inspiration from the implications for human society driven by the impact of new technologies, artificial intelligence and the current pandemic state.

The opener Future Now? kicks off as loud as a wake-up call. The initial tension, built by the musical dialogue between modified vocal samples and an LFO modulated saw-wave, releases as an explosion when the first kick drum drops. An intelligently engineered D’n’B rhythmic session and the alternation and ringing synthesisers generate new elements of surprise for the listener throughout the development of the whole track.

Lanes follows next, where a jazzy drum kit and sweeping effects anticipate the start of an energetic stomper. An unpredictable yet very danceable hard kick drum drives the beat of the track where a consecution of up-lifting noises and effects takes control of the melody, embellished by 90’s style vocals and panning snare rim-shots, the Italian producer delivers an incredibly contagious and syncopated tool for the club.

The EP closes out with the frantic and claustrophobic atmosphere of Permutations, where vocals spoken in a mysterious language and metallic synthesisers bring the listeners into an imaginary dark club located on a foreign planet. The track builds around an incessant powerful kick drum and clangy industrial-like percussions which are making it the perfect rave tool to numb the dancefloor in the late hours.

‘Future Now?’ is available on all platforms starting from Friday 25th March 2022.

Young Russian producer, qwqwqwqwa, known for his Neoplasm imprint and club night in Saint Petersburg with Ugly Club, lands on Grid for our fifth release, full of surprises.

The EP contains six, varied tracks, all with a jagged, UK-edge. With EP-opener 'Core,' you board an ark of dread across a turbulent sea of sub frequencies that rock the ship. 'STBS' twinkles with modular tones of unpredictability, hanging the listener in a subtle groove. 'F Mate' is a rampant roller scurrying across the seafloor with unpredictable and petrifying bass. 'S-Low' is irresistibly groovy, boasting a b-boy drum pattern that is spread meticulously across the frequency spectrum. 'Perk' is dark and dirty with phased percussion that chimes over rumbling kicks. EP-closer 'p+DRM' is a 129bpm new-school jungle and bass hybrid with chords that are luscious and welcoming. TIP!

Just two years on from its inception, @kindergartenrecords reaches its tenth release, a landmark occasion for the NYC label and crew founded by @masha-ny. Who better then, to celebrate this anniversary, than @drvmmy. The NYC-based producer was the first to release on the label back in May 2020, and the intricate chaos of his production work is emblematic of the label’s commitment to maximum propulsion on the dancefloor. With 'Double Stop', Drummy dials up the energy while delving into a deep, dark sound palette. The EP heaves and crashes throughout, playing with texture with a maximalist approach.

Toma Kami returns to Livity Sound for a third EP of provocative, experimental club gear. At the helm of his own Man Band label the French producer continues to explore a hybridised style which favours fractured beats, playful samples and occasional psychedelic flourishes.

Compared to the busier sound of previous releases, minimalism informs Toma’s approach on LIVITY053 as he sits his crunchy drums and weighty low-end in a tangibly spacious mix on ‘Amapicante’. Even within a stripped-down context, his unique approach shines through as ‘Later To The Bone’ progressively ramps up in scratched and scuffed sonic interference and ‘Mzecal’ trips over its own fragmented found-sound drum formations.

Finishing off Henzo’s banner 2022 that has seen releases on YCO and Peder Mannerfelt Produktion, the Manchester based producer dials back the tempo into 5 cuts of gloom-ridden dancefloor damagers for his Nervous Horizon debut. Running the gamut of Dancehall, Techno and Drum & Bass, the EP’s refined palette is laser-guided in its intention of favouring groove and atmosphere over melody and hooks.

The opening track, 'Survivorship Bias', rolls out a lurching and smudged drum break over an equally sketchy Donk and vocal sample in a Bolton-meets-Belgium chug affair. 'It’s Ours and Hours Alone' and 'Writhing' lean more towards a typical Dancehall rhythm, smattered with the reticulated percussion that Nervous Horizon have been known for, saturated and growling. 'His Troublesome Knees' sees a variation on the theme of the opener, with the addition of harrowing, gnarly strings that posit drama in the riff that runs almost throughout; An inescapable tension that juxtaposes the highly danceable groove. Rounding out Stretford Blues, 'A Pocket You Didn’t Expect' feels like 3 tempos at once: 82, 164 and 328BPM. The battering, unrelenting kicks laced over taut breaks and hats hark to Jungle Techno and Tech Step in their composition, but the drawn out and bleak orchestral breakdown, coupled with a barking, irate bassline, suggest that Henzo shows no allegiance to nostalgia and is moving intently into the future.
