DAYBREAKER 10 Year x Marques Wyatt Sunrise Set at Santa Monica Pier

This was the first ever sunrise set at DISTRIKT and our first visit to DISTRIKT.
Together with everybody who was present, we had a musical flight that took off in pitch black darkness and soared into the rising orange sun. It was a unique experience and certainly one we’ll never forget. Thank you for dancing and sharing this moment together!

Thirty five years of professional DJing this summer! 

I have spent many past posts musing about the early days, so I will spare you words of nostalgia today. Instead, I want to hit you with the kind of set that I feel is an accumulation of my past experiences of what works on a dance floor, what I personally love, and which of those sounds I feel connect with what's happening today. 

Music has largely stopped giving us anything truly new in the past decade, but the absence of newness doesn't mean we shouldn't discover music that is new to US, and sometimes we should also remind ourselves of the great eras, genres and grooves we may have forgotten. So today, instead of giving you newness, I present to you my musical opinion on contemporary timelessness.

I would personally dance my ass off to this set. LMK if you would too.

2024; EMBRACE THE RETRO

Disco has always been at the root of my DJ sets. With this ‘Disco Tangle’ mix I didn’t go in with a plan, just pulling tracks that are never far from reach. Keeping in my mind those lost moments on the dance floor when things just click.

Space Banana is a wonderful, small club with big sound in Boise, Idaho. I was lucky to DJ there on the Saturday night for Treefort Fest  2024 and took the opportunity to play some pumpier, new and well-loved favourites and a couple of cheeky edits of mine to a super fun crowd.

Unplanned Underground Spa Set was such a delight to be able to dig deep into my library and play some of my favorite all time tracks i have never played before at a tempo I hardly get to play these days. 
The greatest joy is a room full of people in multiple tubs and pools dancing as well as everyone in robe / swimsuit attire with smiles all around. What a treat.

40 years ago, I landed in Los Angeles. It was spring, and I remember how I had never seen so much concrete and cars in my life. This began a love affair with the state of California. Lushpod #75 is a love letter to the state that shaped how I became a man and a driving force to how music runs through my veins. From its sunny beaches to its stunning desert vistas, I will always love this state and what it stands for. California, I salute you!

This 3 hour mix was recorded live, beginning at 6:45am from outside the Bucket of Blood Saloon, Virginia City, NV at the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey (RTO), running relay exchange Point No. 30. Today 230 teams of 12 runners, thats 2,720 runners competed.  I was hired as the runner's hype man.  lol  For your listening pleasure
