This EP was created from the idea of representing THE PAST, THE PRESENT, and THE FUTURE in a set of three short mixes.

Why did this idea come to life?
Well, lately I’ve been living more in the present  not just saying “I live in the present,” but actually feeling and understanding what it truly is. That helped me clarify what the past and the future mean… and reach the conclusion that everything is built from the present.

The past and the future are part of the present  but the moment you mentally live in either one, you disconnect from the now. You stop creating your life, and instead, you start observing it. And the more you observe instead of act, the more you stop living it.

If you're going to think about the past, that's fine  just reflect and learn from it.
If you look into the future, that’s also okay  analyze, dream, envision what you want to create.
But always come back to the present, because that’s the only place where you can:

No longer one of Denmark's best kept secrets, Holtoug's talent is firmly out of the bag as he touches down on hafendisko with the yearning 'Stay In Love' - a tune worthy of comparison in feel and tone to Âme's smash 2012 remix of Ry & Frank Wiedemann's 'Howling'. Marrying the drive and energy of dance music to the singer-songwriting sensibility of his indie roots, it's a delicious mélange, intense yet featherlight, booming yet ethereal: an intricate and playful soundworld characterised by breathy pads, deft percussive flourishes and a swooping, swooning bass that basks in all its glory on the accompanying Instrumental version.

On remix duties, hafendisko labelmate Yannick Labbé - best known for his work with Trickski and long association wth Jazzanova/Compost - gets all dark and menacing, adding harsh, machine percussion, vibrating subs and a dis- combobulating counterpoint of eerie, sustained tones.

Meanwhile, Martin Gretschmann (The Not- wist), operating under his Acid Pauli pseudo- nym, mutates the vocal into a cooing, howling, wah-wah as playful intertwined synth lines dan- ce and bounce off each other gleefully. Perpetu- ally inventive, otherworldly stuff!

Over the past seven years Desert Hearts has become one of North America’s strongest curatorial forces for underground shades of house and techno. Through their flagship festival, touring event concepts, and record label, the brand has fostered a community of music fans in search of peak dancefloor experiences. With a diverse range of taste offered from its founding members, the Desert Hearts sound embodies a spectrum of sonics fit for any time, from day time get-downs to the darkest hours just before daybreak. 

It is those otherworldly moments of early morning reflection that embody the sound and direction of the label’s newly founded subsidiary, Desert Hearts Black. The label has been announced today as a creative outlet for Desert Hearts founder Marbs and fellow venturer into the deeper and darker avenues of electronic music, Evan Casey. Those who have attended Desert Hearts’ flagship festival will know Marbs and Evan from their iconic late-night sets that have become an essential part of the event’s trajectory and avant-garde appeal. DH Black will keep course with the vibe that these performances have crafted, merging the connectivity of the brand’s core ethos with the melodic and psychedelic sounds of tomorrow. 

In Marbs’s own words on the launch of the label, “The primary intention of Desert Hearts Black is to open up more opportunities for the community to experience and participate in the late night and early morning music heard at the festival over the years. Currently, Desert Hearts Records has represented our house community to the fullest and we want to provide that same outlet for those in our family who enjoy heavier, darker, more journey driven sounds.  
   
Someone special to me once said, ‘We can easily find our way in the light, but in the darkness is where we can truly discover who we are.’ Those moments of self discovery, especially within music, have shaped who we are and how we see the world around us. This project is aimed at creating immersive experiences, of both sound and setting, to take people deeper and reach into the far corners of the genres we love so much.”

The new label will be minted by a collaborative three-track release from Marbs, Rinzen, and Evan Casey, ‘Torus’ EP, due out August 9. In celebration of the release, the trio of cosmonaut producers have released a stream of its title track, an ethereal and haunting journey into their shared cryptic psyche. Marbs and Evan have been joined by Rinzen on the debut release, a producer who has seen a momentous trajectory through his narrative based concept EPs on mau5trap and releases via key European labels like Berlin’s Steyoyoke and London’s Chapter 24 Records. 

Desert Hearts Black will host a release party for the EP on August 9 in Downtown Los Angeles’ warehouse district - a fitting locale for the dark trip in store. Our favourite west coast space rock band "Woolfy vs. Projections", or "the Hall and Oates of the dance world" (XLR8R) are back for good. "Set Me Loose" is the first single from their 2012 album "The Return Of Love" , which with its proper songwriting, dreamy atmosphere and psychedelic character became an essential listening delight for all kind of Balearic types over the past summer. "Set Me Loose" is the perfect example for W vs. P unique blend of electronic and acoustic instrumentation and the natural haziness that lives in their music. This makes it a perfect match for Swiss legend Lexx (you have to check out his contribution to the ' originals ' series on Claremont 56), who offers the first remix here. Lexx does what Lexx does best adding a good portion of Excotica, tropical drumming and a certain dubbyness to the original making it a winner on the late night floor. 

The Drifter, who had a busy year with setting up his own label Maeve, which he runs with his lads Mano Le Tough and Baikal and with releasing his debut ep on Permanent Vacation in late 2012, comes correct with a hypno house version of "Set Me Loose". He leaves out most of the original's Balearic feeling and adds a punchy kick and an acidy bassline to get it in shape for the more housy floors. 

Last but not least in this delicate triumvirate of remixes is El_Txef_A from Bilbao, Spain. Aitor Etxebarria turned quite some heads with his last year's debut album "slow dancing in a burning room" and the mixture of contemporary club music and classic pop elements. He stays close to the original, stripping it down to the basic elements of the groove and the vocals before half way through of the remix an arpeggiated synth appears and introduces the 4/4 bass drum for the second half.

The sounds in the original song moved me and had me hooked from the moment I heard the clip on beatport, but the song is only 3.5 minutes short. So I stretched it out over 11 minutes to keep those 'feel good feelings' going even longer! Its a sunrise edit because I want to hear this while the sun is rising!

Since this is an edit of more recent song I cannot make it available for download due to copyright stuff. I only hope that coMa realizes that they have some sweet ear candy here and have someone edit it or remix it proper like Lee Burridge, MattDekay, or the Pachanga Boys... or hey, what if CoMa just made an extended version of the original song that would work too ... say up it to 14 minutes of bliss! :)
