I've received a number of messages in recent weeks regarding fellow SoundCloud users having their remixes of Somebody That I Used To Know removed from SoundCloud due to copyright infringement. My personal position is that I don't try to block unofficial remixes posted for online streaming providing they're posted for purely creative reasons and are not exploited commercially (eg: monetized on YouTube).

Under current laws the formal consent of the label and publisher/s is required for any use along these lines however, and as much as I would like to help everyone out to attain this consent, there are simply too many requests relating to remixes of this particular song and too many rights holders involved for me or my reps to assist with Soundcloud keeping them up.

Patrick Van Kerckhoven is considered to be one of the founding father’s of the hardcore sound. He is specifically responsible for initiating the creation of a sub genre of hardcore that became known as “Artcore”.

Inspired by the House Music coming from Chicago and Detroit, he began his musical career at just 15 years old performing at various clubs around Holland. Most of Europe had not yet been exposed to House, let alone any form of Hardcore. Patrick kept pushing the Hardcore sound throughout the 80′s and 90′s, producing hits such as “Mindcontroller”.

In lieu of his DJ and Producing successes, van Kerckhoven started his own record label “Ruffneck Records” in 1993. This label released over 250 tracks including several major hits such as “Ruffneck Rules Da Artcore Scene” which even managed to hit the European music charts at number 8. After a brief stint making Drum and Bass music with his label “Ruff-teck”, van Kerckhoven continued to craft and create new hardcore sounds.

Around 2000 he launched labels “Supreme Intelligence” and “Gangsta Audiovisuals” which concentrated on the newly invented “Darkcore” and “Artcore” styles respectively.

After many ups and downs within the Hardcore scene, he created Enzyme Records in 2001 to make a fresh start. Patrick did all of the work behind the scenes, in order for his roster of artists to grow and gain popularity without having to worry about any of the stigma attached to his earlier projects. Patrick managed to fool the hierarchy of Hardcore and the entire music scene into thinking that he had retired. The truth was that he was busy at work the whole time managing and creating for Enzyme records and it’s many infamous sister labels such as “Enzyme X”.

Currently Patrick runs several of his own record labels that are prominent in various genres like Hardcore, Hardstyle, Industrial and Hard Techno. These musical elements as well as those that cannot be described are all pieces of the unique puzzle that makes up Patrick Van Kerckhoven and his musical vision.

DJ CHOSEN FEW (NL)

CHOSEN FEW a key member of the legendary Mokum Records Crew and produced massive tracks like “The Break”, “Chosen Paradise”, “Kold Days” and one of the biggest Hardcore tracks of all time “Name Of The Dj” which to this day is still a big hit in both its original form and as a remix by artists like Neophyte, Tha Playah, Buzz Fuzz and Dano.

He has been playing Hardcore Gabber since its birth, starting out 1991 in a small club on the Amsterdam red light district, on this he builds up a large multitude fans, and from that moment it goes fast and soon becoming a regular at famous events like Thunderdome, May Day, Nightmare in Rotterdam and was even booked for Scottish events like the massive Rezerection, Mayday in Berlin, Nightmare in Rotterdam 1993, Mayhem and Enchanted in Australia and several more, Thunderdome 1994, 15 years of Thunderdome, 20 years of Thunderdome, Hellraiser in Amsterdam, the biggest club in Europe ‘Number One’ in Italy, Poland, the United States, Sweden, Switzerland and the list goes on and on.

This guy has an ambition to visit all the biggest events in every country all over the world, keeping the real hardcore vibe alive!

With huge releases on labels such as Mokum, BZRK, Megarave, Spleen Kick, H2OH recordings, Cenobite, Industrial Strength, and now running his own label called ‘Chosen Few Recordz’ with Lady Chosen Few, it is not hard to understand why this guy is one of the hardest act on this planet!

The style of Chosen Few is a unique mix of early Hardcore, Gabber Techno, Up-Tempo Hardcore & a strong twist of Drum & Bass.

Really got into Hardcore in the late 90's. Visited his first party at a young age with the immediate desire to visit more. Spending a lot of weekends with friends travelling to parties all over Holland, Belgium and Germany. Until in 2002 a Dj set appeared at a local hangout, he got interested in mixing records. After some time and thoughts he bought his first set of vinyl's and startup equipment to practice in grandma's basement.

Because of his musical background in younger years he mastered the skills of beat mixing soon. The next step was handing out mix tapes amongst friends and finding opportunities to play! Together with some friends they decided to organize an own concept "Supreme Hardcore". These party's became legendary in the region and served as a platform for regional talent and upcoming DJ's.

After a few editions a big DJ contest was announced at the former Platte Zaol (Maastricht- NL). With high ratings of a professional jury Mr. Sinister finished second. Due to this contest he got introduced with UHM Events. From that time on he became a resident at all their Hardcore concepts. An insane period followed with a lot of gigs and work as a promoter for UHM Events.

About the same time he met DJ Triax who was a newcomer to the regional scene. Triax was already producing and Mr. Sinister had the ambition too. They started to work together which resulted in Mr. Sinister's first release: "Forever to Stay" in 2008. Other projects with Triax followed and in 2009 the first solo track was released "Hardcore Style". In October 2012 he released "Heart of Darkness" and started to work on new music to send as demo to mayor labels in the Hardcore scene.

So after many years Mr. Sinister gained a consistent and impressive archive of gigs with massive events as Masters of Hardcore, A Nightmare Outdoor, Raving Nightmare, Megarave, Nature One, Earthquake, Hellraiser and many more. In 2014 he signed with Adrenaline Tracks (sublabel Neophyte Records) and released 2 E.P.'s since then. Currently he's unsigned and working on new music so stay tuned and watch out for more Mr. Sinister tracks!
