Herles pres. “Sueños de Opio” / Peruvian Dance Dream

In this KS special we present a mix by @herlesfalconi that was recorded live during the KITCHENSESSIONS Matinée Open Air on the 30th of April 2023 in the secret not-so-secret garden in Chorrillos, Lima. 

Herles (Lima, Peru 1988) has two passions in his life: archeology and music. From the age of 13 he escaped from school to buy cassettes of underground rock and jazz in Jiron Quilca. With the advent of the internet and his studies of music he began to upload demo tapes and Peruvian Avant-garde tracks. Unlike other DJs, Herles foundation was never in electronic dance music: during his early phase as a DJ he played Post Punk, New Wave, Jazz and Psychedelic, always with a focus on local and Latin-American productions. Later, discovering sets from Ron Hardy and the Chicago House scene, he teamed up with Aristidez and founded “ @Casalocasa ” aka the craziest club in Lima. The rest is history.. 

Living in Madrid for a while made him reconnect with his Peruvian roots. Upon returning to Lima, he intensified his search to locate impossible to find music: digging in local flea markets at dawn, in houses of jealous vinyl collectors or even knocking at doors of forgotten artists to get their original recordings. Currently he also directs a vinyl store called “Discos volantes” focused on Peruvian treasures. 

This current mix contains a selection of rare dance music entirely or partially produced in Peru, ranging from tracks that have never been released on vinyl, “City Pop Limeño”, Peruvian Flamenco-Disco on promotional pressings, or popular disco covers from cumbia tracks (or vice versa). The name of the mix “Sueños de Opio” comes from a cosmic track that was composed in the thirties by Felipe Pinglo Alva, the first composer of more popular transcendental Peruvian music.

Kopfweh Kein Wunder: Nightterrors Mix by Dilâ

Born in Milan to a Cameroonian father and a Polish/Lithuanian mother, Nathan moved to Jerusalem at age six. They have spent their childhood in a Jewish ultra-orthodox environment, playing the piano within the context of religious ceremonies and dreaming of becoming a fashion designer and musician. After waking up from the reality they were raised in, they moved to Venice and started to explore the world outside of the mental barriers of religion. While completing their fashion design degree back in Milan, music was their medicine, and they quickly started developing the practice of storytelling through the medium of sound, serendipitously pursuing their father's path as a disk jockey in the vibrancy of the Eighties and Nineties cosmopolitan Milanese nightlife. Their search for home and their devotion to music brought them quickly to Berlin, where they currently create, live, and love.

In March 2023, their debut solo album “Sanctuary of Ideas” was released via the Zurich-Berlin-based label Lustpoderosa.
“Sanctuary of Ideas” is a very personal and optimistic journey by Nathan Dawidowicz. A spiritual path, as cosmic and adventurous as Nathan’s trajectory, with beautiful twists and psychedelic twirls into their personal rabbit hole. A record full of memories and positive affirmations, filled with jazzy yet psychedelic Cosmic and Krautrock elements. A fusion of inspiration and a perfect reflection of Dawidowicz's heritage.
