RSXGLD (pronounced “rosegold”) is the epitome of what every music fan craves when they learn that two of their favorite artists are working together. In addition to capturing what made its creators so dope on previous projects, this album is brimming with tracks that find the duo of producer 14KT and rapper Ro Spit pushing themselves artistically. The result is an organic, personal, and gripping listen from two of Detroit’s finest.

There’s so much to unpack in RSXGLD’s tightly constructed 12 tracks that repeated spins aren’t just a must; they’re basically automatic. Of course, you probably knew that already if you peeped the lead single, “I Believe,” a deep and potent cut featuring the talents of JMSN. And if not, simply hit play on opening track “42175” and allow its raw vulnerability to pull you in. From KT’s sonically rich instrumental to Ro’s soul-baring bars, the track kicks off the album perfectly—and it only continues to build on its strengths.

From slappers like “Err’body Know That” to conceptual joints like “Over Your Shoulder (Angel & Devil)” featuring Elzhi, and the Denaun Porter featured, “Give It All,” the success of RSXGLD lies in the fact that KT and Ro are such natural collaborators. It doesn’t hurt that they're bringing their A-games on here, but it wouldn’t sound this good if both parties weren’t fully committed. Their desire to take the album to another level was clear from the jump, because each explained that it represents firsts for them. As mentioned, Ro is more vulnerable lyrically than ever before on here, while KT is pushing himself to create outside of his comfort zone.

This is all evident on “True,” which is also an incredible display of the album’s depth. On first listen, it’s a pure rapping showcase from Ro Spit and Detroit heavy-hitter Royce Da 5’9”, because they’re spitting like they’re possessed by KT’s layered production. But then you hear it again and begin to understand the personal tales unfolding in their rhymes—and that’s all before KT takes “True” to church in the latter half.

RSXGLD is what happens when two artists willingly push themselves to their creative limits, all while recording the best music of their careers. The 12 track LP is now available on CD, vinyl and digital download via Fat Beats Records.

An instrumental project with a collective of experimental sounds brought to you by myself, and the help of some very special friends of mine. Enjoy. 

Beginning

Our second release of the year comes courtesy of SA based @emamkay. It features a mix of Hip Hop, R&B and different electronic styles.

The full project drops this Wednesday (27th,) but until then here's the second single 'UpanDown.'

Emamkay had this to say about the release - "ALPHA is my second project and comes in collaboration with UK indie label Shimmy Records. Compared to its predecessor THETA EP (which was self-relesed) I’ve decided to explore and augment the electronic and experimental elements to this project. The EP also features a space-age hip hop sound, which some people describe as my ‘signature sound.’

I currently live in Soweto where I have a home studio setup. I enjoy music with lose structure. That’s why Flying Lotus, John Coltrane - whom I sampled on a track called Trane, Soul Quarrians and Norvis Jr are my current influences.
I’ve added aspects of my personality to this project using skits and surreal interludes. This gives the project more life, and projects my sonic ambitions."

Before their much anticipated debut album arrives this Friday, RSXGLD (Ro Spit & 14KT) connect with fellow acclaimed Michigan natives Royce Da 5’9” and JMSN for a soulful new single, “True.”

There’s a deep and potent weight to the track, which stems from RSXGLD’s self-titled album, and it permeates through each element. JMSN, who appeared on lead single “I Believe,” sings his heart out on the chorus that pushes us all to leave the past behind us. And on their verses, Ro and Royce detail their respective come-ups and all they’ve been through to get to where they are today. As Nickel-Nine raps at the end of his bars, “A n***a had negatives but my positive just gon’ have to outweigh it/ N***a, I’m just happy I made it.”

“True” hits especially hard because of its musical elements, too, which are brought through the immaculate work of 14KT and guest DJ Assault. You may know Assault for being one of the forebearers of the electro-dance sub-genre of Ghettotech, and he brings that sound straight to the beat on here for track’s second half. 

“True” represents a musical journey of so much that Michigan has to offer the world, and it’s one hell of a way to get ready for RSXGLD’s impending release.

RSXGLD (aka the duo of Ro Spit and 14KT) stunt on their contemporaries in the fresh new video for their funky banger, “ICU.” It’s the latest we’re hearing from their highly anticipated joint album, which is now available!

First of all, hats off to 14KT for flipping a classic funk ballad into a underground Hip-Hop banger, because his instrumental absolutely knocks. It’s also a fitting backdrop for Ro to talk his sh*t, a characteristic he’s definitely become well-known for over the years. What’s interesting, though, is that “ICU” is actually one of the more bravado-focused tracks on RSXGLD, which you’re welcome to make that determination on your own by giving the full album a spin. 

And similar to their previously released visuals for “I Believe,” “ICU” was also directed by the talented Perry Grone. That means you can expect crisp, remarkably edited visuals that emphasize the energy of the song itself. Ro and KT capture the raw energy of “ICU” as well, particularly when showing off their moves for the camera.

Detroit natives, RSXGLD (rapper Ro Spit and producer 14KT) are back at it with their latest video. This time around, “Err’Body Know That” gets the visuals treatment, which features slick animated effects and charismatic performances from the emcee/producer combination.

This is the third video from RSXGLD’s acclaimed 2017 self titled LP, which include previously released visuals for “ICU” and “I Believe (feat. JMSN).” And just as those two videos had their own stylistic touches and narratives, the same is true for the great “Err’Body Know That.”

Directed by fellow artist Mario “Khalif” Butterfield—known for his work with HouseShoes and Denmark Vessey, among others—the visuals place a sharp focus on Spit and his lyrical dexterity, which is highlighted with various animated effects.
