Hot In November - Alexander Robotnick & Lore J - Released by Hot Elephant Music.
Second release by  Robotnick/Lore J duo.
This time they venture into  a quite unusual techno territory, at least for Robotnick who has not practiced such high BPMs (130) for a few years. But Robotnick  enjoyed working on this track - born out of Lore J.'s idea - with the same  enthusiasm and curiosity.
The 2 versions are quite similar until about half of the track but then they take different directions:Lore J's version evolves into a slow dreamlike theme, whilst Robotnick's remains more minimal and rhythmic.

Flying Fishes in the Sky

According to data from the 2011 Census, India continues to be overwhelmingly young, with 41% of its population below the age of 20. 
Moreover by 2020, the average age in India will be 29 and it is set to become the world’s youngest country with 64% of its population in the working age group.

This indicator points to the widespread vitality of Indian culture in all art field such as cinema, music, design and architecture.
A large young population also means the entertainment industry is rapidly developing and dance music plays a major role in it as the natural social aggregator.
Clubbing is booming everywhere , first of all in the big cities and then also in smaller ones. Numerous festivals , often very well organized, pop up ; many young musicians are active in the field of electronic music. 

Indian TechExpress is a sample from the future of electronic dance music. You won't find much "Indian sound" in it , as traditionally defined. Paradoxically you'll find more Africa in it. Indian youths look at the world and Africa seems to attract them more than their own music tradition. Most of them are young artists , some actually very young, and very well represent a movement that is developing in the fascinating and creative chaos that contemporary Indian society is.

Alexander Robotnick presents: Various - Indian TechXpress

Pippon, the title of this track, expresses A.R.'s and Lore J's extreme intolerance to the  names  usually given to electronic music tracks: like “Morning Star” to evoke  music feelings, or some  mysterious acronym or  obscure numbers like k451, or some tentative description of music styles like “late-night-afro-punk” and so on. 
Sick and tired with all that, they decided to go for a totally non-sensical title like Pippon. The music is once again made up of different versions of techno-progressive: Lore J's one develops in a decidedly progressive way, whilst R.'s is more linear and static.
The third version is more dance-floor oriented and is the result of a post production edit.

"Early Morning Raga" is the new single by The Analog Session , produced by Alexander Robotnick's label, Hot Elephant Music.

With this track, the two artists tackle a style which , just like Jazz, is considered the most profound
and refined expression of melodic improvisation in music: Indian Raga.
Robotnick and Pinsky never claimed to compare with Indian classical music Masters who
traditionally spend up to 10 years studying and practicing before playing in front of an audience.
Anyway, drawing on their long experience with modal improvisation, they decided to pay tribute to
a music style which is only superficially known to the Western public.
In this project they were supported by the remixes of two Italian producers (two Florentines
indeed!)

The central element in this clip is a Wasp, the synthesizer designed in 1976 by Albert Wagner ,
who unfortunately passed away recently, whose technical characteristics, in Robotnick's opinion ,
magically blend with the Indian style.
In this clip the Wasp looks like a sort of UFO, symbolizing electronics' intrusion on Indian tradition.
It is therefore with great satisfaction ( although maybe a little bit pretentiously) that Hot Elephant
Music opens this window onto Indian electronic music to the Western public, in the hope of
encouraging some other Indian producers to deal with their unique and matchless roots b because
if something must be saved from the pervasive standardization deriving from wild and super fast
globalisation , it's indeed the artistic expression of different cultures, as this is peoples' true and
invaluable wealth.

The Analog Session - Early Morning Raga (cuts mix)

Soundtrack of the homonymous video-installation produced in September '86 for the "Arte degli Ambienti" Festival in Pantelleria. Later it was staged also in Firenze (October '86), Perugia (April '87) and finally in Palermo (June '87, part of the collective exhibition "Per amor del Cielo" at the Modern Art Gallery).
The installation is a ever-changing landscape of memories dedicated: 
"...to the black island, where a beloved shipwrecked friend, after having suffered for long time has been turned into a fish”.

The theme of the work is the shipwreck in all of its allegorical meanings. Mixing music, electronic images, voices, scenographic materials, GMM re-proposes the poetic reconstruction of a seascape populated by fishermen, castaways, wrecks, hallucinated backgrounds.

These tracks are derived from some improvisations recorded at Robotnick's studio in Summer 2018.
In the editing the most significant parts were saved ; others were cut out to give shape to  7 tracks where improvisation plays the main role while adjusting into a dance structure.
Modal music as  usual where the continuous variation in tone-colour leads to a hypnotic state . Liquid yet dramatically metronomic music. Growing out of the history of electronics we humbly contributed  and feel to belong to, here and now.  

No need to stress the analog origin of most of  our sounds. You can immediately feel it : analog synths produce a kind of sound which, although synthetic is perceived as real and therefore the emotions it gives -if any -are much deeper. 
Two tracks already released in "Black Ground" are here presented with a new look. "They sound differently every-time we improvise them live". The versions presented in this EP come from a Summer night in my studio while rehearsing before a concert.
On that occasion we wrote the sequences of 3 new tracks “ Actung Asteroid “ “When Machines Get Funky “and “ Traveling To The Hidden Space” upon which we improvised in a couple of takes together.
We then added to the project some tracks made with traditional overdubbing in studio production style : “Until Emergency Is Over", "Burning Sun"
"Early Morning Raga" , already released as a single with a number of remixes closes the album.
Intermezzo is a bonus track . It’s an improvisation by l p where he exclusively used the modular synth he  put together by himself . Pure analog electronic music for die-hard fans of that sound .
Alexander Robotnick ,well known for his track”Problèmes d'Amour” released during the early 80s’ Italo-disco age, boasts a fairly broad music experience ranging from electro disco to rock and world music , ambient and soundtracks ,as making music has been his only job and passion in . The same applies to Ludus Pinsky who experimented with Punk , reggae and ambient in the past .
Their multi-faceted music background inevitably impacts their current work which is further enriched by their long time familiarity with improvisation

Italo - Discoing

Cement, one of the  best friends of the modern era is showing its limits.
Do you remember the fantastic architecture portrayed by  comics in the 60s, with cities raising to amazing heights , overhanging bridges connecting towers....Well, forget it.
Cement doesn't seem to be reliable in the long run. What a shame, it was such a beautiful dream, a dream called cement.
Alexander Robotnick & Ludus Pinsky once again together with their  Italcimenti project introduce  this EP containing 4 tracks:

3 - Step by Step
4 - Unavoidable Crash

It's a kind of Post-Italo stuff. 
1 In "A Dream Called Cement" an Italo sequence-riff challenges a suspended pad: it's like opposing  the appeal of cement to the entropy of time.
2 "Suspended City" is a tribute to our imagination. Maybe  progress has slowed down a bit..;) But we still keep those  dreams firmly  in our mind.
3 "Step by Step" is built around a fragment of a dialogue: "Everything 's gonna be all right" - "Oh...I know you) It points to some responsibilities or at least carelessness whose consequences are emerging today.
4 In "Unavoidable Crash"a very fast arpeggio draws the fragments of instability produced by an unstable planet. Chords spring out  suddenly, acting like an alarm and creating tension until the groove is back and  the dream goes on.

A Dream Called Cement

Alexander Robotnick – The Four Seasons
It’s high time for seasoned Alexander Robotnick to tackle an Italian classic: The Four Seasons ….before seasons are definitely wiped out by the dramatically famous climate change. We grew up with a sort of mantra that went: “Seasons are no longer the same…” , a mantra that existed even before we were born. But Winter is still Winter and Robotnick’s desire has always been that of a Winterless year. The Four Seasons represents a sort of wishful thinking (by contrast).
Four ultra classic titles : Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. All of these tracks (apart from Winter) share the same origin: : they are born out of three very fast arpeggioes (32mi) where the note sequence is so quick it almost sounds like a continuous chord.
Impressionist music , without any real theme (except for Fall). Deep House that never falls into style clichés . No parallel harmonies, no one key chords, but a seamless flow that opens into modal scales and finally chill-out listening . Only in Fall the arpeggio sometimes tends to reveal itself , grows frenzied and introduces a somewhat
melancholic theme.
Fall has always been an intense and creative time for Robotnick , animated by a powerful energy flow, probably
to exorcise Winter which is looming on the horizon. In Winter the arpeggio is replaced by a sample from Wagner’s Master Singers that creates a music background with a meditative pace despite the pressing rhythmics.

I composed and produced these tracks during my first  2 years of activity with multimedia group GMM.
They were originally used as ambient music for video-installations and as the soundtrack of videos with spoken lines. This is the case, for example, of  In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida or GMM Suite.
I made all  of these tracks using  one of the first entirely digital music production systems: Alpha Syntauri.
It consisted of two boards to be inserted into the relevant slots of Apple 2 (but I used its clone “Lemon”). The software was written in Basic and was quite coarse and would not allow any quantization. 
But its  sound  was interesting: purely additive synthesis with the possibility to control the envelop of each added overtone . Unfortunately all that happened within eight bit domaine.
So there was considerable digital distortion and it sounded fairly cold. But as you listen to them today that sound has a special appeal. The cold and abstract 80s atmosphere  -  in the style  of the eighties - that it generated  allowed me to compose very simple themes, sometimes abstract, sometimes sentimental : but  the final result would still match what the sound meant to describe: a glance onto reality that was detached and part of it at the same time. 
These tracks are presented in a suite divided into 2 parts.

Boliwar Miranda was born in Bombay from a Goan family, hence his name of Portuguese origin.
Despite his Catholic education, he very soon fell in love with Indian classical music and was accepted at the school of an excellent master of “bamboo flute” Hari Prasad Choudury and became his best pupil learning the secrets of that difficult art over a period of several years.
He gradually developed a musical feeling which is closely linked to Indian classical tradition but also reveals authentic originality.
In 1986 he moves to Italy where he is obliged to take a job which is by no means connected to music. It’s in 1993 that he meets two Italian musicians (Maurizio Dami and Ettore Bonafé) and encouraged by them, feels the need again to resume his musical research.
In 1994 he records the CD “Music for Meditation” with Maurizio Dami and Ettore Bonafé distributed by Materiali Sonori. With the above-mentioned musicians he gives several concerts at festivals and cultural events such as Estate Fiesolana - Festival di Pesaro - Estate Veneziana - Museo d’Arte Contemporanea L.Pecci.
In 1996 he records his second CD with Maurizio Dami “A good day” for the Italian label C.P.I - Taccuini.  distributed by Mercury-Polygram; this new work is more Ambient- and New Age-oriented.
He then worked with Maurizio Dami on a project of "Modern Indian Music": their first work ,under the band name "Masala" (DROP 7, released by Materiali Sonori) blends ambient music, modal jazz and liquid grooves with the extremely rich melodic tradition of India. The second one is "Lucid Dreams" (DROP 7.3, released by Materiali Sonori).
Due to Parkinson's disease that sadly hit Boliwar too early in his life, he can't play anymore but remains an artist and a very good painter.

Alkemya (1997) was a trio of musicians tired of spending hours sitting in front of the PC to democratically decide the direction to follow. They therefore decided to turn back to improvisation yet without giving up the opportunities provided by the use of the computer. Thanks to technology it is possible to see and edit the result of a real interaction among musicians on the computer screen.
So, Alkemyas music is substancially "live-performed", it’s a reaction against the unbearable coldheartedness of so much electronic music, generated exclusively by the process of superimposing and editing different tracks.

It can't be classed in a specific genre, fluctuating among ambient music, electronic music, trance and sampledelic music.

SAAZ AND VOICE (Nazar - Kurdistan - Iraq) : this is an Oriental lute with strings producing  a very open and distinctive  sound. Some keys are at the interval of a fourth of tone according to the tradition of a large region that includes the Middle East and part of the Mediterranean. The tunes that Nazar sings and plays are very ancient but sound extremely lively even to our modern ears.
KEYBOARDS (Maurizio Dami - Firenze - Italy): they represent the “primordial soup”, the sound of “reality as it is”, unaffected by history and culture. They provide the “glue” and  create the environment where  tunes can swim like fish in the water.
KEYBOARDS and VOCAL (Smail Kouider Aissa, Algeria) : They represent the dialogue amongst different Mediterranean cultures and the gateway to the Arab world. Smail comes from Algerian Rai.
TABLAS ( Arup Kanti Das, Rashmi v. Bhatt, India): the most typical and universally famous Indian percussions need no further presentation. Due to their precise tuning they are not only rhythmic but also harmonic instruments.
