After hearing the news of Simons passing and remembering with friends the subject of a certain mixtape came up …we all searched our boxes of cassettes without much luck and some empty cases …however Pete Slotter discovered and found what might well be the only existing copy …and as luck would have it the original tape!
Recorded at Simon DK's flat in Nottingham after the after party on a DiY Bounce night in 1994 after Bath crew John Kesecki & Pete Slotter went back to his and asked him to make a tape, which he did and named it 'Float Laboratory'. 
It's a lovely pitched down mix perfectly capturing those early hours.
It was brought down to Bath - copied and played ALOT!!. It was one of those tapes that just did the rounds and was loved by many…
So it was only right at this time to immortalise it and make it available for you to enjoy again or hear it for the first time...

After a storming end to 2012 with the Slow It Down &amp; Elijah Collins release in November swiftly followed by Elias Tzikas in December, Retrospective is back with a monster of a release. We are proud to kick off 2013 with none other than Italy’s finest; Ajello! Eclecticism is definately the keyword word of the Ajello project comprising of Luca (DJ Rocca) Roccatagliati and Fabrizio Taver Tavernelli. The Ajello sound features a number of influences all of which can be heard in the tracks on this, their first E.P. on Retrospective; electro, new-wave, italo-disco, disco, neurofunk, eurodance, space sounds, early house. Over the years their music has received worldwide support from a host of international artists including Laurent Garnier, Erol Alkan, Dimitri From Paris, Andrew Weatherall, and Nick Fanciulli amongst others.

As this is the first E.P. of 2 from Ajello we decided to pull out all the stops on the remixes for this project. First up is Sean Johnson aka Hardway Bros, undoubtedly one of Future Disco’s pioneers with a heritage to match who delivers a truly unique rework of Kalimba Tune taking us on a trip back to the warehouse sounds of the 80’s. The second mix of Kalimba Tune is delivered by Chris Massey best known for his mixes of 2 Bear’s - Bear Hug, Diplo &amp; Sleazy Mcqueen who delivers a pure Nu Disco groover. In addition, for the digital release Verdo of Danny Was a Drag King fame brings his signature hypno-beat flavor to the fold alongside label owners Ruben &amp; Ra who deliver a taste of Cosmic Jam to Saturday Morning. Quite a package I’m sure you will agree!

Adding the deep touchs from Hardway Bros, with techy edged sounds from Chris Massey, but my favorite from the Ep has got to be the Ruben &amp; Ra Cosmic jam, wicked track, production is hot yo!! 5/5

Velanche's Playtime/California - The originals are my faves, but the Hardway and Ruben &amp; Ra mixes are also good.

Dynamicron Vultan - Powerful release! Love mostly Kalimba Tune original mix and Verdo's cosmic acid treatment. Will play out for sure! 4/5

What is there to be said about Ruben & Ra except these two have been lovers of boogie, disco & funk and have been keen record store diggers for too many years to count.
