A lot of them really seemed to like the idea. So much so, that a certain ghostly, theatrical entertainment robot would be inspired to write a stage play for him and his friends to perform in.

Papyrus is meant to represent Toriel. In Mettaton's retelling of the events, Papyrus is one of the archeologists and scientists researching the ancient temple they're all near right now.

Near the end of the Temple, Papyrus realizes that Frisk is likely still woefully underprepared for the world beyond. Rather than scaring them into staying, however, he instead tries to come up with better reasons for them to stay. Such as the fact that they would make for a great addition to their ongoing research of the Temple, seeing as Frisk is human, and would likely have a unique perspective on things.

Originally, Vulkin was meant to play the role of Sinkin. Due to safety concerns, however, Froggit portrays them instead, making them one of the few cast members to portray themself, rather than someone else.

Napstablook, invisibly haunting a patch of flowers, is meant to represent Flowey. It's meant to appear as though they're all the flowers in the room. Due to budgeting issues and time constraints, however, Mettaton only had enough time to arrange the central patch of flowers, somewhat ruining the intended effect.

Frisk, quite a few years older than they were when they first met everyone, portrays themself. Despite their best efforts, Mettaton insisted they dress up as they used to. While their outfit is wholly out of their current personal style, there's something rather nostalgic about dressing up as their childhood self. Whether that nostalgia is comforting is yet to be... determined.

Mettaton is meant to represent Chara, and takes a much more literal "Narrator" role. Being the writer of the stage play, and given the cards he had been dealt in the big Halloween Dress-up Party, Mettaton figured he'd be fine taking a less active role in the stage play.

That's not to say he won't be going on needlessly long tangents that slowly inch the spotlight back on him, though.

Flowey, and by extension his plush doll that looks like his past form, is meant to represent Papyrus. With the prince long gone, Mettaton felt it was important to respect his legacy. He needed someone who wouldn't hog all the attention for themself. Eventually, he'd find Flowey. A small, unassuming flower who by no means has ever had any importance in this story whatsoever.

The Dreemurrs would donate some of Asriel's old plush toys, and Mettaton (and the people he "hired" to help with costuming) put together a cute little outfit for it to wear. Flowey puppetteers it from off-stage, shouting his dialogue so the audience can hear it clear enough.

Chara is meant to represent Sans. They lack a physical form of their own, being soulbound to Frisk, so instead, a mirror is placed on stage. Chara speaks through Frisk. It's not confusing at all to any of the viewers.

By this point, given the amount of time that's passed, most people know, whether they've accepted it yet or not, that Chara and Frisk coexist within the same body now. They're even the one who insisted they and Asriel be included on the dress-up party, which led to this particularly strange set-up in Mettaton's play.

In Mettaton's retelling itself, Chara lives a rather normal life in the Silicone Valley with their brother Asriel. As normal a life as that of a human adopted into a family of high standing can be, of course. They used to live in the capital city, but moved out to the Valley for a more quiet, unbothered lifestyle.

The cast isn't the only thing at the whims of Mettaton's retelling, as the distinct locations across which the story takes place all have received a makeover as well! Inspired partially by Hotland, the Ruins has been transformed into an ancient, underground desert temple. It's also home to what used to be a communal area for both humans and monsters, many years before the war.

She was once the Royal Scientist, but after stressful circumstances involving one of her close friends, she decided she needed to step down, unsure if she could continue handling her responsibilities, and has instead devoted her time to helping Papyrus research the Temple.
