‘I Don’t Want Paradise’, the second single to be taken from Brighton based indie, pop-rockers Rubylux’s upcoming album ‘The World Goes Quiet’, is a remix from pop industry veterans Pete Craigie and Tim Laws.

A song about desiring the imperfections in a lover (“Imperfections make a character or accentuate beauty. I don’t want perfection, I want the cracks of light, the things that makes us human” explains lead singer & guitarist Rob Irving) ‘I Don’t Want Paradise’ showcases the band’s strong musicianship, lyrical prowess and ability to pen great hooks. As anthemic and dynamic as rock but with the commercial and catchy appeal of the best pop, this single, and the music on their new album ‘The World Goes Quiet’, has an accomplished, assured quality. The album’s 12 tracks of rousing, infectious, big-chorused pop-rock, will appeal to fans of bands such as Snow Patrol, OneRepublic and The Script. 

“We gave everything on this album the time and attention it deserved,” explains bassist Clark Coslett-Hughes. “We tried to achieve the perfect balance on the songs and sounds from epic to chilled, which we like to put across in our live shows – it’s all in there. So I am confident that the album represents the band through and through.” Inspired by icons such as Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles to stadium-fillers like Radiohead and The Killers, Rubylux - who have already taken their music from the street to big festival stages- now dream of their own stadium shows.

Irving, Coslett-Hughes, keyboard player Adam Harris and drummer Mike Hall have seen a ground swell of support since the release of their first single earlier this year. Facebook fans rocketed by 250% to over 25,000, a number which is still rising daily. Having already received recognition from the likes of The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Led Zeplin’s Jimmy Page at Brighton Music Awards, this summer at Kendal Calling Seasick Steve caught Rubylux’s performance and later, during his own set, name checked the band as the ones to watch this year. 

Rubylux have recently been announced as the Music Ambassadors for Soccerex – joining some big names in football such as Michael Owen and Neymar - the band are the first musicians to take on the role. Rubylux on the Road To Rio will culminate in performances on Copacabana beach in November as part of the Global Football Festival ahead of the forthcoming world cup. 

Having recently performed at Rockness and The Barclaycard British Summertime Festival (with J-Lo and Lionel Ritchie, a personal highlight for the band), Rubylux will also be playing at Lodestar Festival, playing the main stage on August 31st as well as appearing at Feastival and Chris Evans’ Carfest in August. As we drove away from 12 Pines, the most energetic acoustic show I have ever played, I kept seeing in my mind two young people, cars packed full, pulling out of their driveways, leaving home to become a Bennie and a Johnnie for the first time. I got out a note pad and started writing their story, which of course was a love story. I recorded the song in my home the next day. I thought it would be make a nice thank you for a memorable night.

‘The World Goes Quiet’ is the first single and title track from the forthcoming album by Brighton based, 4 piece band Rubylux. The anthemic mix of rock and pop, with its soaring chorus and insistent bass line, is impossibly infectious and the perfect introduction to the band’s second studio album. 

Lead singer and guitarist Rob Humphreys, bassist Clark Coslett-Hughes, keyboard player Adam Harris and drummer Mike Hall are known for their ‘guerrilla street gigs’ across the country. Setting up on the street and playing for as long as possible, these regular free street shows helped Rubylux build a loyal fan following, funding their first steps towards recording their debut album ‘Fake Control’ with producer James Sanger. Although self released on a small scale the album still attracted the attention of media, such as The Guardian.

Rob explains, “We’d borrow a generator and PA system, and we’d set up around Brighton, blast out songs for 30 or 45 minutes, however long we could play before the police or council shut us down. Then we started recording those gigs, to sell them later on. We made enough money to buy our own gear, because the street gigs attract a ridiculous amount of people, far more than we’d play to a small venue in Brighton. It’s something we love and want to continue doing.”

With diverse inspirations (from Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles to Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and The Killers), the band’s own music sweeps the gamut from guitar pop to anthemic rock. Rubylux have already achieved impressive feats, such as the opportunity to play gigs in countries like Vietnam, Australia, USA and Germany as well as small venues across the UK. Alongside this, they have built up a thriving official fan club, leading to recognition at The Brighton Music Awards. Here, they received the best band accolade, garnering praise from the likes of Roger Daltrey and Jimmy Page who presented the award. Despite this, Rubylux are still just getting started.

Arguably ‘Brighton’s best kept secret’, Rubylux who formed five years ago are excited to take on the UK with their first major album release ‘The World Goes Quiet’ and it’s suspected they won’t be Brighton’s secret for much longer.

After a hugely successful support slot with Russian rock-group Mumiy Troll last year, the band will support them once more, this time at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on May 25th and, as previous winners of ‘Band of the Year’, they will be taking to the stage at the Brighton Music Awards in June.
