On the 40th anniversary of the famous ‘Blue Marble’ photograph taken 
of Earth from space, 
Planetary Collective presents a short film 
documenting astronauts’ life-changing stories 
of seeing the Earth from the outside – 
a perspective-altering experience 
often described as the Overview Effect.

The Overview Effect, 
first described by author Frank White in 1987, 
is an experience that transforms astronauts’ perspective 
of the planet and mankind’s place upon it. 
Common features of the experience 
are a feeling of awe for the planet, 
a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, 
and a renewed sense of responsibility 
for taking care of the environment.

Erde, 
Du aller Mutter, 
Du festgegründete,
Singen will ich von Dir, 
uralte Ernährerin 
aller Geschöpfe.

Die Du ja alles, 
was im Meer und auf heiligem Boden,
Was in den Lüften lebt;
ernährst mit quellendem Segen.
Du nur lässt sie gedeihen
 so reich an Kindern und Früchten.

Heilige Göttin, 
es steht bei Dir,
den sterbenden Menschen Leben zu geben, 
zu nehmen. 

O selig, 
wem Du die Güte Segnend gewogen, 
denn alles erblüht ihm in üppiger Fülle.
Schwellende Saat bedeckt ihm alle Felder 
und reiche Herden beweiden sein Land, 
sein Haus birgt Schätze in Menge.

Und 
so herrschen sie denn in der Stadt 
voll lieblicher Frauen
Mild nach rechtem Gesetz, 
begleitet von Segen und Reichtum.
Jünglinge schreiten stolz 
in junger, blühender Freude.
Jungfrauen spielen fröhlich 
in blütenumschlungenem Reigen
tanzbeseligt dahin 
auf den weichen Blumen der Wiese;

Alle, 
die Du gesegnet,
Du spendende, heilige Göttin.

Heil Dir, 
Mutter der Götter, 
Du Gattin des sternübersäten Himmels. 

Für meinen Gesang gewähre mir glückliches Dasein.
Ich aber werde Deiner 
und anderer Gesänge gedenken.
