This is one of many traditional songs I collected in the early 1980's in the region around my hometown Ronse. We played these songs around the turn of the century with Andan, a short lived group consisting of Veerle Houwen (vocals), Raquel Gigot (accordions), Philip Masure (guitar, bouzouki & vocals), Ben Faes (double bass, harmonium) and Rudy Velghe (fiddle, nyckelharpa).

This tune was composed by Soïg Siberil who recorded it on several occasions. We started playing it in the early nineties when Soïg was a member of Orion. When Soïg left the band, Zagreb continued to pop up regularly on our playlist  at concerts and festivals. Thus, this track was selected in 2000 for a compilation album in celebration of the 21st anniversary of the Cork Folk Festival. Other artists appearing on the album were  a.o. I composed these tunes many years ago and recorded them with Orion on the album Restless Home (1998). My friend Nicolas Quemener played whistles and guitar and Donal Lunny guested on bouzouki and bodhran. Trip to Gaza was written on returning of a tour in Palestine.  This very day, besieged Gaza is being bombed again. My thoughts are with the children, women and men of Gaza. Many of the hospitable people we've met over there must be killed or mutilated by ... Many of the houses and places we  stayed in or spent some time must be destroyed ... I strongly believe that all injustice comes to an end, no matter how long it takes.
