‘Magnetica’ is het eerste studio-album van funky producer en gitarist Quantic Music sinds ‘An Announcement To Answer’ in 2006. De verwachtingen zijn dus hooggespannen. Will Holland (a.k.a. Quantic) heeft overigens niet bepaald stil gezeten in de tussentijd met releases en projecten als ‘The Quantic Soul Orchestra‘, ‘Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro’, ‘Flowering Inferno‘, ‘Quantic & Alice Russell’ en ‘Ondatrópica’.

Magnetica is een versmelting van alles wat op Quantics bordje heeft gelegen, gedurende die productieve jaren. Hij heeft de indrukken van zijn reizen opgezogen en in dit album verwerkt. In de afgelopen zeven jaar, woonde hij in Colombia en werkte hij samen met legio Latijns-Amerikaanse, Afrikaanse en Caribische muzikanten. Die sounds zijn op Magnetica gemixt met Quantics groovy elektronische club sound. Live en op plaat mondt dat al gauw uit in één stomend feest.

Cold Busted has navigated the smooth seas to unearth Sailing, the new album from Moroccan guitarist and beat-flinger saib. With acclaimed releases for Cult Classic Records and Japan’s Introducing! label as well as his 2016 long-player Around The World for Cold Busted, the Casablanca-based producer has steered his sound into warmer waters. Mixing tempered hip hop beats with jazzy vibes and a lounge sensibility, saib. touches on a style that’s both chill and opulent. The album’s opener, “Archipelago,” sets the scene with gentle piano, swirling strings, and beachside sounds that would make Martin Denny proud. “Tropics” pushes the agenda further, featuring delightful vibraphone lines, stand-up bass, and boom bap beats, providing the perfect soundtrack for poolside cocktails. The sleepy crooning of “Blue Memories,” the future-retro sing-a-long of “Mermaid Dreams,” and the guitar/vibes interplay of “Pastel” provide other highlights. Sailing’s twelve songs show saib. as an artist capable of bringing a sunny climate to any listening environment. All hands on decks!

Geliks floats across Europe, mysterious and elusive, landing in the Cold Busted inbox with a captivating album titled Indeed. There is no telling who Geliks is or what Geliks wants, but with Indeed the unidentified artist covertly drops 11 captivating tracks that give lovers of tough beats just what they need. Indeed! 

The set opens with “2376 Broadway,” imagining a dramatic moment soundtracked by sweeping strings, soulful vocals, and beats for days. It’s catchy as hell, too. There’s also the hypnotic “Paper Plane,” combining lonesome piano, jazzy stand-up bass, and strange musique concrète shuffles. “Ball Flip” is another highlight, boldly mixing hip hop flavors with clanging bell melodies and some terrific rock guitar. These are just of a few of the tracks found on Indeed, and Geliks maintains the extraordinarily heady vibe to the end. Give it a spin!
