Antares is the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpius. The name comes from the ancient Greek ἀντί antí, meaning ‘against’, and the name Ἄρης Ares, meaning ‘opposite Mars’. It is often referred to as “the heart of the scorpion”.

Ares is described as a crude, wild, untameable god of war who enjoys violence and went out with wild animals to feast on their blood. While Athena, the goddess of wisdom and cunning, stands for the heroic or intellectual part of war, Ares is more of a dark god, a “divine brawler”.  He was considered a symbol of male strength and beauty and had a passionate and long-lasting affair with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The god Ares was called Mars (the Roman god of war) by the Romans.
