Antares is the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpius. The name comes from the ancient Greek ἀντί antí, meaning ‘against’, and the name Ἄρης Ares, meaning ‘opposite Mars’. It is often referred to as “the heart of the scorpion”.

In Greek mythology, Ares (ancient Greek Ἄρης Árēs) is the god of terrible war, carnage and massacre. As the legitimate son of Zeus and Hera, he was one of the central figures in the world of the Greek gods. Ares is described as a crude, wild, untameable god of war who enjoys violence and went out with wild animals to feast on their blood. While Athena, the goddess of wisdom and cunning, stands for the heroic or intellectual part of war, Ares is more of a dark god, a “divine brawler”.  He was considered a symbol of male strength and beauty and had a passionate and long-lasting affair with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The god Ares was called Mars (the Roman god of war) by the Romans.

Antares is a dark and atmospheric, break heavy Jungle project by Josh Stotz.  Conceived in January of 2019, as the Illicit project was put to bed, influenced by darker cinematic landscapes and ambient works.  Part of Ballpark Recordings, Force Recordings, Cause 4 Concern LTD, Hangry Records, Suicide Audio, Monkey Business, Locked Up Music and always more in the works.  Older releases under the Illicit name can be found on Ruffah Ras Records, Mos-Hi, Top Ranking Records, Nuff Stylez (France), and Hum-Fi Drum Digital.  Antares aims to bring a darker cinematic soundscape to modern Jungle.
