This mix is a sonic journey through the harder, grittier parts of healing. Coming face-to-face with Anxiety in its purest form. Uncovering, deprogramming, reprocessing, releasing. Refusing to hide and choosing to love. Hard driving forward through the dark, through the distortion, grounded in space and time inside the speakers. Recorded live in Chicago July 2023 at Research & Development.

I first caught Sapph playing a Pillow Princess party they threw at Tuxedo with Chanel and knew we had needed them as part of our series. They took the stage and owned a crowd of a hungry crowd of club goers like a seasoned performer and it was a great portender of their skills. These are all tough to write cause its basically me (madeofants, Nick writes these too but I'm a lot more vulnerable) saying how much I love everyone's taste and how cool I think they are in different (hopefully) creative ways. So I don't have a long anecdote, Sapphyre is a dang sweetheart and this mix fucks so shut up and enjoy it why are you even concerned abt the caption yr weird.

Episode 2: Impurity

First up on the guest mix is Impurity aka Matty P aka the Scouse Rembrandt. Matty is an OG bass head who gets a little too excited by The Bug and has most likely thrown a cup of piss in a Coki crowd. Typically known for his dark, moody taste in drum and bass, dubstep and jungle, his music taste is originally inspired by metal, punk, noise and all things downcast (u can tell he used to be a bit of a goth). Regularly playing at legendary bass party Version and guest at a range of low end oriented parties across Berlin and further over the years, Impurity his earned a name as unspoken legend in the scene, in addition to a string of unique and weighty releases on Cead and Of Paradise and recently his own label Foreign Body.

Matty was part of the initial wave of inspiration to show alternative ends to established DJs musical palettes as we spent a few too many hours going b2b, and there’s few people i’d rather mix with and have on the show. 

Matty has managed to weave together all ends of his musical vision, merging his top tier selection of dnb and jungle through a range of italo, ambient, noise, punk, metal, indie, classical and reggae while maintaining his organic tone and showing no set tempo.

Mix 13 comes to us from the infinitely talented Brooklyn NY artist @cadesss a master of live sets, hardware manipulation, dj curation and overall electronic music history buff, we are very excited to have him on the series. This mix is a vinyl-only mix of dub and 90s techno, now playing on the soundcloud page. We sat down with him a few questions to introduce himself-

Whats your name and where are you from?
Ian Cades and I’m originally from Georgia, moved to the city in 2018.

Can you tell us about the mix?
I’m not a very good mix planner, my collection is split up wildly across multiple hard drives, USBs, lot of vinyl, 2 different laptops, etc. so when i work on a mix I tend to just gravitate towards whatever’s been my recent additions. This whole mix is 140 bpm but hops all over the place.

What you are currently working on that you are most excited about?
I have a big live set I’m prepping for in the summer that is taking up most of my free time. I also just wrapped up an EP for release this week that is entirely club focused and I think is my most concise work yet.

Any hobbies outside of music?
Feeding birds in my neighborhood 


Where can we see you perform next? Any upcoming gigs?
I’ll be opening for Versa end of May for SBE! I’ll be doing a dub live set with a touch of IDM and glitch.
