You gently yawned and stacked clouds. You are the view beneath the clover, miniscule enough to see her veins in the summer sun. You are the end of a sigh, the basement of the lungs. You are the golden hour whom erst you knew. You, in all of your wicked and kind facets, are the red stroke across a blank canvas. You bragged about the tiny spine in your palm, and told stories about the shapes it used to take. You cracked open and told me your name.

orico is a sunset for 15 soundtracks, a diadem of human proclivities. Peach fuzz of harmony hums, the TV’s fur at your fingertips, the dog between your legs awaiting whistles, pacing around the room while the idea rubs against bedroom walls. A parochial friend once implied the sunset is the same every day. “I’ve never had someone make me question all the rules,” once said. It’s hard not to agree with something so foolish.

"I recorded this in the midst of hurricane season 2024. Helene hit us pretty hard and left me feeling even more isolated as a trans person in an area that is already pretty much detached from most everything (northwesternmost tip of south carolina). I found myself looking toward the coast, some 5 hours away, and toward soraweb's approach to "electronic bossa nova" alongside the works of Arto Lindsay and Masakatsu Takagi. Nearly every track here was improvised in single takes (no outstanding cuts or overdubs, if it could be helped) with a mixture of live instrumentation and electronics, including some sounds produced by an old homebrew sequencer for the Nintendo DSi, if you can believe that. the DSi usage is best heard in the electronic voices on "upsets" and "caowu". Various sounds were provided by trans and nonbinary friends who wish to remain anonymous, many of whom are in constant search of an aquatic vessel, one for us to ride into the sunset on, in hopes of escaping this horrible storm."

En 1965, Steve Reich réalise une avancée formelle majeure dans son travail de composition avec It's Gonna Rain qui fut cependant en partie le fruit du hasard. 
Exploitant dès lors volontairement le principe de phasage/déphasage des bandes magnétiques, il décide de raffiner le procédé. Il compose, sur commande, une pièce en soutien aux « Harlem Six », un groupe de six jeunes afro-américains arrêtés et inculpés collectivement pour un meurtre commis lors des émeutes de Harlem de 1964. 

L'ensemble du groupe fut jugé coupable et battu par la police, alors que seul l'un d'entre eux était l'auteur du crime. Truman Nelson, un militant du mouvement des droits civiques, confie à Steve Reich dix heures d'enregistrements des témoignages de jeunes gens, le laissant libre de les utiliser à sa guise comme source de création musicale primaire.

La pièce est ainsi basée sur la phrase « I had to, like, open the bruise up and let some of the bruise blood come out to show them ». 

Cette phrase prononcée par Daniel Hamm, un des garçons impliqués dans les violences mais innocent du meurtre dont il était accusé fait référence au fait qu'il ait dû faire saigner ses bleus pour convaincre de l'importance de ses blessures.
