In essence, it is a form of extrasensory perception in which one's soul is measured.  
Psychometric research involves two major tasks: (i) the construction of instruments; and (ii) the development of procedures for measurement. 
The first psychometric instruments were designed to measure the concept of intelligence. 
More recently, psychometric theory has been applied in the measurement of personality, attitudes, and beliefs, and academic achievement.
