Inspired by the success of bringing Carl Finlow at the end of 2021, our team developed the brand identity for a new events series in Kyiv. Everything was ready to start — Umwelt booking, the lineup formed, flights paid for, announcements and ads set up.

But all that remains since then are memories of unfulfilled dreams and desires. And now — a tribute mix from Sparkless featuring the exact tracklist he prepared for EDGE.

Jake Fairley aka Fairmont is an electronic music producer, live performer and DJ from Toronto, Canada. He began his career in the early 2000s making rock-infused techno and electro under his own name for labels such as Kompakt, Sender and Dumb-Unit. However, it was his 2005 smash-hit Gazebo under his Fairmont pseudonym that solidified him as a heavyweight in the global underground scene. Released on James Holden's Border Community label, Gazebo sold 20,000 vinyl copies, made Fairmont a household name and remains a club standard to this day.

His partnership with Border Community would continue for several years. In 2007 the album Coloured In Memory hit store shelves and became an instant classic in the melodic and indie-techno scenes. The album showcased yet again Fairmont's refusal to have a linear view of techno music by moving effortlessly between zeitgeist and influences that might have seemed completely out of place at the time, be it surf-rock, folk or kraut. The next few years would see Fairmont's sound evolving even further, incorporating disco and goth elements into the mix, hinting at what was to come next.

In 2012 Fairmont found a new home base on My Favorite Robot Records with his album, Automaton. With a strong, yet unusual 80s influence and vocals dominating each of it's 11 tracks, It was nothing short of an electronic pop opus. Automaton's release coincided with Fairmont unveiling a new incarnation of his live show, adding even more synths and drum machines to his all-hardware (computer-less) arsenal. What was already regarded as one of the most impressive and energetic live shows around, was now somehow a kind of concert as well, with lots of vocals, improvisation and stage presence.

Since Automaton Fairmont has been as busy as ever, running the label Beachcoma with his friends Metope and Side Le Rock, touring every continent, remixing artists such as John Digweed and still finding time for his own productions. In 2014 he began DJing as well as playing live and has already built a serious reputation for his trippy, propulsive sets. Most recently he released the epic Close Your Mind EP on MFRR which is sure to go down as one of the finest records in his expansive, 15 year catalogue.

SwitchSt(d)ance is a difficult name to retain but the music is undeniably memorable. Upon first hearing, it sounds strange, confusing, somehow off, too slow, too dense, too obscure, too naked, too real. It is also equally challenging to classify or define - electronic, hypnotic, gothic, psychedelic, melodic, organic, minimalistic, futuristic, introspective. But beyond any and all clichés it really is music to feed your head, brain music if you will, because if you allow yourself to be drawn in, the melodies and beats take hold of you leaving you with a sensation of floating just above the dance floor. Here the music comes first, all hypnotic and retro-sounding arpeggios, sometimes out of tune or time, the profound introspective soundscapes are paralleled only by the depths of the journey upon which you, as a listener, embark. Born in the early eighties in Lisbon via Goa, Marco Antão is the man behind the name which he adapted from a skateboard maneuver. He became a resident DJ at Lux Frágil in 2010, has shared the booth with all of his favourite musicians and main influences, played all over Europe from Berlin to Barcelona, Warsaw, Amsterdam or London, to name a few, and was invited by the Red Bull Music Academy to play at two editions of Boiler Room. In 2014 he released his debut EP “The Graveyard Shift” on the berlin-based Beachcoma, run by Fairmont, Sid Le Rock and Metope, with follow up “Daydreaming” landing in on the same imprint in 2015, along with no “No Man’s Land” on the legendary Areal Records.

This is where the craftsmen comes in with their remixes, names you know and love.  A new comer to SVR is IndySoul and he makes a very strong entrance with his remix. With a touch of Latin House and melancholic piano keys, his remix is really addicting. Then you have ZaVen, the talented Dutch producer who really takes music to another level of emotions. From beginning to end, ZaVen's remix is like a documentary of sounds. Another new member for SVR is BiGz AkA Big Al and his intro to the label is with a Deep, Dark and Sexy Remix of the Original. It's a remix that calls for all underground music lovers. To match the beat and style Lebedev (RU) would be the closest to BiGz remix as more upbeat drifting remix. Lebedev (RU) gives that uplifting touch to the remix. Like any clubs or parties there is always that closing track and for this release the closing track belongs to Domestic Science. It's an afterhours remix with the ending of the journey, smooth, hypnotic and ambient touch to the Original.

Alexander Khomenko, known to electronic music fans as Sparkless, was born on August 9, 1982, in the Northern capital of Russia- Saint Petersburg. Even then, without knowing anything of the boy’s future, life was leaving an imprint of warm summer rain chords and melodic birds’ vocals on the soul of the future artist. A love of music was not inherited by the boy, as it is with most music careers, but it came quietly. It’s hard to recall the day when it happened, but it was the first records from England and Italy which fell into his hands that triggered it. Later, in his more conscious years, Sparkless began himself to write and collect music. Alexander parted from writing music at the end of the 90s, focusing his attention as a listener. It was only by coincidence that he got into DJing, while registering for a music site as a fan of ONE of the Djs, and he decided to try his hand at the art of mixing songs. This process carried him away and stuck, so to this day he keeps following the passion, bringing consistently fresh mixes to his fans again and again. 
To date, Sparkless is the author of more than 150 music reviews in his home country, and for the last 8 years ruzzia’s top music site has ranked him in their top 100 DJs. 
Alexander characterizes the music that he promotes as “an intellectual and emotional cocktail, with a deep, philosophical meaning”. Preferred styles: Deep house, Nu Disco, DNB, Soulfull, Atmospheric breaks, House.
