Paradise Belongs to You EP

An undoubted talent, Rudy's "Time/Spirit" EP was a significant high-point in the Proton Music 2018 schedule. As the UK producer now returns to the label, a brand new three-track offering finds "All Things Fade".

An artist with a select but growing portfolio, Rudy's artistic talent continues to flourish with each passing release. Making his debut on Subjekt Recordings in May 2016 with the "Transformation" EP and remixes from Martin Roth and Kris Davis, Rudy went on to see his music find a home on the likes of Oleeva Records with the beautiful "Qualia" and Nie Wieder Schlafen with a stunning remix of Quatri's "Ozora".

Making his Proton Music debut in December 2017 with a standout remix of David Calo's "Chronomatic", Rudy quickly saw his "Time/Spirit" EP released in early 2018. Remix editions on both Particles and Proton saw new interpretations from Daraspa, Pysh and Mio and His Flute in the summer, while blue-chip reworkings from GMJ and Matter and Andrea Cassino for the flagship imprint, ended 2018 on a high.

As we now continue his story, Rudy returns with the masterful, "All Things Fade". The title track thus oozes quality as a plucked motif opens proceedings backed by a subtle shaker percussion section. Building delicately, new motifs emerge full of poise and melancholic air while a shuffling acoustic drum groove adds an organic touch.

"Real You" continues with a metronomic percussive groove that combines 4/4 beat with a combination of hats and shakers. Building throughout, a sumptuous melodic phrase built around reverb-laden piano enters the mid-range gradually increasing in intensity and complexity with the inclusion of occasional notes and reverse-reverb. As the beats ebb away at the breakdown, the central melody continues in stark isolation before a glorious growling bassline adds intensity and drama to the second half to create a stunning track.

The third piece sees "Reinvention" full of the melodic prowess so central to the EP as rhythmic phrases lock tightly against the groove and familiar piano refrains make their presence felt. Increasing in intensity, a stunning analogue bassline redolent in Moog prowess, powers its way through the track to create a rasping, rough-edged character that juxtaposes against the softer melodic elements. Pausing at the mid-point breakdown, the track erupts in the third movement again with bassline and a collage of melodic phrasing creating a rich and spine-tingling sonic palette.

As Rudy returns to Proton Music, it will be some considerable time before "All Things Fade".

Ghost Culture makes a return to Phantasy with a digital double-side of emotive and futurist electro, ‘Blue Ice/Meltwater’.

‘Blue Ice’ dives immediately into trippy euphoria, perfectly engineered to transmit a trance- like effect on listeners. It’s tunnelling energy doesn’t let up from beginning to end, melting through layer-upon-layer of serotonin-altering rave oscillations, awash in a texture that lands somewhere between melancholy and euphoria, strobe light and sunrise.

‘Meltwater’ meanwhile begins unassumingly, executing a spacious rhythm that is soon consumed by powerful sub-bass weight and an almost overwhelming rush of analogue synthesis. The result is a weightless, aquatic blend of rhythm and melody, destined to create any number of transcendent moments on the largest of sound systems, without sacrificing the flawless composition at the heart of Ghost Culture’s music.

A new artist to enter the Particles catalogue, Chihaka makes his EP debut with the striking "Nyarara". Remixes come courtesy of an Indian newcomer and a Mexican stalwart.

Making his Particles debut via a notable reworking of Aeikus' "Juno" in September 2019, Michael Chihaka continues his relationship with the label through a stunning original triptych. An immaculately crafted affair, the title track shimmers in percussive energy while a plucked arpeggio sits easily across the upper frequency range as subtle piano chords generate emotive nostalgia and rare beauty that opens up at the mid-point. Building with ease, the track erupts into the third movement with a glorious new melodic sequence built upon the earlier arpeggio. "The Awakening" continues the rich melodic characteristics of its predecessor with sublime piano chords acting as a centrepiece for strong beat and dynamic hi-hat groove to carry the track forwards. A grooved pluck adds further, filtered intrigue in a track of untainted vision. Final track, "Kurohwa", is built upon a wonderfully constructed bassline groove as offbeat open-hat percussion and melodic components wax and wane with mesmerising results. A grooved synth sequence ties in seamlessly with the dynamic rhythmic cadence as reverse-reverb piano add texture and emotion in an immaculately crafted affair.

From the 'Silicon Valley of India', Rayomand is another new name to the Particles roster. An accomplished musician, proficient in piano, violin and guitar, the Kolkata resident has continued to flourish. After releases on Submarine Vibes and Gentleman Lounge Records in the first half of 2019, the self-taught music producer joins Particles with an accomplished reworking of "The Awakening". Retaining the central melodic themes of Chihaka's original and intelligently reworking them within a driving rhythmic framework, the track pulsates gently with familiar piano refrain and plucked sequence. Expertly mixed by Khordad Edulji, a wonderful new low-octave piano motif adds a delicate touch to proceedings post-breakdown and a vibrato edge supplies relevance to the "Dusty Old Tape Machine Remix" title.

No stranger to the underground dance fraternity, Hot TuneiK has consistently wowed listeners with his stirring brand of progressive house. With a triple century of production credits to his name, the Mexican has been a regular across the Proton Music and Particles catalogues with his "Revival" and "Circles of You" for the former and "Erase and Rewind" and "Tulum" EPs for the latter. Now returning to the Particles roster after a remix of Matter and Universal Harmonics in October 2018, Hot TuneiK delivers a typically energetic offering that immediately delivers a rich melodic flow that sits across a nine-minute epic remix. Through laid-back, rolling groove, "Kurohwa" is given the perfect vehicle for a sumptuous array of textured pads to complement the original sounds while the plucked motif sits perfectly on top. Full of magical additional production material, Hot TuneiK delivers a unique interpretation of Chihaka's work while staying true to the elegant musical values of the original.

A musical triptych of the highest order from Chihaka is only enhanced by remixes from Rayomand and Hot TuneiK in "Nyarara".

Musically, the album is situated between influences of electronic downbeat, deep house, dub and hip-hop. The band members come from a variety of different musical backgrounds and have created their very own sound with a mix of influences between the Arabic and Western world.

@truecolorslabel hit double figures in style with a new EP that offers up three new cuts from @timur-sardarov. This artist is always searching out new sounds and grooves and brings ethnic influences and spiritual vibes to his productions on labels like Earthy Delights and Flying Circus.

Here he opens with the brilliantly dark and involving Full of Courage which has rolling drums that are warm and full of atmosphere, twinkling pads and searching synths. High Scheherazade then takes you on a trip into an intoxicating world of exotic synths and enacting leads that really cast their spell on you as the deep beats roll on and spine tingling vocal cries ring out. Last of all, Breaking Through The Fog is a tense cut with bold pianos layered over the rubbery drums.

This is a truly moving EP from this superb talent.
