NEIL DIABLO - BERWUDA (Rothmans)

French producer Jules Etienne reappears with a 3 track EP including a Jex Opolis remix on Barcelona's finest disco imprint Apersonal Music. Jules shows his most elaborated work to date evolving to a more band oriented production filled with plenty of live instruments and vocals as seen on "Free as a man" and "Dont want to talk about it". On the B side "Rhythm for the garden part I" is a mad ride driven by live percussions and a drum machine. Canadian producer Jex Opolis who has been releasing top stuff through his own Good Timin' label comes on board on the release remixing "Free as a man". Guilty pleasures all around.

Remix extravaganza ahead! What started as an attempt to transport Feater’s brillant outsider pop „Time Millionaire“ (taken from the Socialo Blanco album) onto a dance floor with one or two remixes, ended up as a feast served on three different platters with some heavy hitters. First up, Pépé Bradock and Ricardo Villalobos are crossing their beams. Spread over two 12“s, the masters of idiosyncrasies and splendid aural design, Bradock and Villalobos treat the voice of Vilja Larjosto with love and care and bring it into their respective universe during peak time: vocals, dubs, acapellas and bonus bits included. Expertly, tricky and inventive.
	Remix EP no. 3 merges different trajectories of UK dance music traditions (or Ireland for that matter). Man of the moment Krystal Klear takes the material down to love town: the sound of 1980s Island records meets NYC boogie and UK street soul sounds. Hessle Audio’s Pangaea follows the other path: uptempo bass fun with a driving dub and an instrumental pass. Last but not least, Feater & Sam Irl themselves deliver a blissed out dub of the original. Oh, and if you have enough time, flip over to the 10“ with an Aba Shanti-I approved UK reggae and lovers rock take on it by Blood Shanti.

On Sticky Swedish duo Dagfest bring a breezy, summer festival-ready release infused with plenty of vintage synths over the course of five original tracks.

Opening proceedings is Spacer Love Samba, a slow, upbeat slice of italo disco with a raw bassline and fuzzy synth loops that makes for a great mood warmer. Imagination blends elements of synth pop and italo into a lush and laid back slice. Also on the romantic side, Baby, I don’t know delivers low key euphoria in the form of a zig zagging bassline with low slung vocals. Punchy kicks announce Night Thoughts, a floor filler that captivates with its upbeat energy and elastic bassline. Equally compelling, but on a slower note, Chasing rounds off the release with a touch of melancholy.

Tee Mango joins the Delusions of Grandeur fold for his ﬁrst full EP release. He is someone who has always carved his own path with attention to detail and aesthetics seemingly as important as the music, Tom has been a good example of how to make the DIY approach work for yourself since his ﬁrst vinyl output back in 2012. Millionhands and Millionhands Black have seen the majority of his original material and edits but we’ve also seen him appearing on Royal Oak, Aus and Local Talk and future output planned for Permanent Vacation and his own new label SUPERUNKNOWN.

Opening track and our premiere today, Cityspell, goes for the jugular with a pulsing 16th-note bassline sitting centre stage while huge washes of deep pads layer up around it. Sirens and horn stabs join the scene adding increasing energy, making this one of those tracks that nails the balance between hypnotic deepness and hyped up intensity perfectly for the danceﬂoor. Flipping over we have Do U Luv Me? which kicks off with a simple one-note Moog bassline and syndrum white noise snares before some crazy, off-kilter cross-rhythm synth stabs join the party; cue heads running to the booth asking wtf?! Just the kind of wonky, outerspace sh*t that we’ve come to love and expect from masters such as Maurice Fulton or Recloose.

Finally Tee Mango closes off with another absolutely killer cut featuring live-sounding drums calling ‘Paperclip People’s Throw’ to mind with those rasping open hi hats and rolling two beat bassline. A tripped-out female vocal sample and extra acid-esque synth line add to the frenetic atmosphere but melodic arpeggiating chimes ensure things remain deep and musical. A really strong three tracker we’re sure you’ll agree. Give them a spin out and share the love in your charts and mixes!
