Astraltopia is the third and final compilation in the Topia series, as well as the terminal release in the Astral Plane Recordings catalog. Made up of contributions from longtime APR artists and friends, Astraltopia traverses outgrowths of past label releases, novel sonic formulations and the infra-zones between and underneath extant club sounds. Accompanied by artwork from Sam Meier and mastering by Will Mitchell, the compilation follows 2012’s Heterotopia and 2015’s Psychotropia, both of which preceded the formal inauguration of Astral Plane Recordings. Contributions include material from Alis, Amazondotcom, CHANTS, Dane Law, LOFT, Maral, MICHAELBRAILEY (with Iceboy Violet), nunu and SHALT. Astraltopia

Careering through the dense black of night the ship cruised against a desolate backdrop. They were floating through the deepest, darkest corners of outer space in search of a magical world they'd once been told about long ago.

Quasar was out there somewhere but they hadn't found it yet. On board the crew were getting restless, missing the life they'd left far behind on earth down below. Up here in the murky abyss there was little to keep them company but for the somewhat reassuring rumble of the engines powering them through the night sky.

Looking out from the window at the flickering stars and the wild unknown, it was hard not to feel small.

Walton is a singular producer who draws upon elements of UK bass culture, drum & bass and abstract electronics. This new EP on Sneaker Social Club demonstrates his love for big hitting, punchy dance music with a futuristic twist. This one comes highly recommended.

PM+ has set out a crystal-clear MO that prioritises mutant club weapons served with immediacy. Following entries from Peder Mannerfelt and Carbon 96 (Zoe McPherson and Ciarra Black), the third drop of technoid manna from this sprightly series of digital releases turns to Swedish synth scientists Pelican Company and the considerable remixing skills of Logos and ZULI. Johan Antoni and Henrik Johansson (aka Smyglyssna)’s Pelican Company manifests in expansive, highly developed soundscape gear – engrossing on its own terms but also just crying out for a wayward injection of danceability.

Logos steps up first – a bass-toting UK upstart whose meandering catalogue between Keysound, Tectonic and Different Circles leaves his options wide open as he tackles ‘Alvaret’. The end result is a twisting and tunneling dub out with ample propulsion but an overall lightness of touch which will surely appeal to the deepest of techno trippers. Egyptian wildcard ZULI takes a run at ‘Lowlife Hi-Tech Occult’, applying his maverick re-sampling verve to the rich source material and creating a staggered, cracked version which veers between coolant-soaked suspended animation and oil-slickened bass interference.

Completing an album cycle of themes and exploration which began with 2015’s 'Inner Systems', 'The Golden Cage' is perhaps Prequel Tapes’ most diverse and expansive work - utilising the artist’s own vocals for the first time and evolving his production and sound to new, uncharted dimensions.

Working off the trauma of his father’s suicide, 'The Golden Cage' was spawned from a hyper-realistic dream experience which revealed the artist’s path, catalysing new productions and techniques. The result is a striking work of unconventional electronics that journeys through rhythms, atmospheres and experimentations. A true narrative of a continuously challenging personal journey

Beginning with the tension-building, free flow of 'My Turn', we then delve into grief and anger with 'I Hate You', which transforms into the pulsating tempos of 'Stranger or Lover'. The glistening nostalgia of 'Last Things' marks the halfway point before grappling with the heavy introversion of 'Alone' and devious energy of 'Mind Corner'. Nearing the end of our trip, 'Without Remission' uncovers the most dance floor tuned piece while finally the title track closes things out with an energy that will linger long after you’ve listened
