Sandman Russ is a rising hip-hop artist from Decatur, Georgia, whose sound blends Southern roots with the sharp wordplay and storytelling he developed after years of rapping and moving to Michigan. Known for fusing pain rap, melodic trap, sampled beats, and gritty street realism, Russ built a style defined by honesty, duality, and lived experience.
After leaving Georgia to attend Michigan State University as a criminal justice major, he was introduced to the Michigan rap scene and found his voice in the fast-paced delivery, clever punchlines, and raw emotion that would soon shape his music. Though he ultimately left school, the transition marked the start of his evolution as an artist and a man — a journey documented through every project he’s released.
Russ first emerged with Life of Quez, his debut album that introduced listeners to his storytelling and personal background. He followed it with a couple of singles such as Take It Slow and Blank Faces as well as EPS and mixtapes The Russell Stackz Archives and Back Again with his such as Rather, and Running Up That Bill, two early tapes that captured the hunger, rough edges, and foundation of his sound. Open House, released after his first full album, showed a more polished stretch of his creativity, while Flint Files dug deeper into his time in Flint and the experiences, lessons, and people that shaped his perspective.
Across every chapter, Sandman Russ brings a writing style that feels like a diary mixed with a confession — reflective, street-smart, vulnerable, and motivational all at once.
