Meet Brian and Russ, aka No Concept.

Coming up in the bass music scene of the UK's south coast, it was almost inevitable that their shared passion for constructing powerful dancefloor beats would lead them to start collaborating. And so the seeds of No Concept were planted.

Brian was already well-established as a dubstep producer, with several million YouTube views and features on massive compilations in his CV. Under the name Dubba Jonny, he'd been responsible for anthems like “All In”, and the viral “Dubstep Production” series that walked the line between parody and purist bass-and-beat carnage.

Simultaneously, Russ, aka Russla, was rising through the ranks of Bournemouth's drum 'n' bass scene. As a deejay, he became a regular fixture of the biggest line-ups in the area, sharing flyer-space with A-listers like Shy FX, Sub Zero, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, and Hatcha.

The pair's first forays into production together were, by their own admission, “for fun”, but as their joint output started to build a reputation, labels came calling. Adopting the name Glass Cobra, they began to deliver a series of hard, aggressive releases and rave-wrecking back-to-back deejay sets that put them firmly on the map.

No Concept is the next stage of their evolution. Wiping the slate clean with a brand new name, Brian and Russ are coming with a fresh new approach without any thought for sub-genre constraints or preconceptions. Each one of their releases comes loaded with unpredictability coming, as it might, from any part of the drum 'n' bass spectrum.

But, whether they're delivering a sunlit vocal anthem or a viciously filthy rave-weapon, it's always with the same dedication to musical and technical skill that saw them catch the eye of Technique Recordings in the first place. The No Concept story is just beginning.

Beats In Mind: Headsbass is a Drum n Bass collective releasing albums since the start of lockdown 2020. The motive donate every penny from sales and publishing to mental health charities as well as charities relating to the support of mental health for related illnesses, such as Young Minds, Papyrus, CALM, Stem 4 Teenage Mental Health and SUDC-UK.
 
Founder pyxis had the idea to raise funds through music since her own social anxiety has affected her for 20yrs, and utilising her connections in the scene has now enlisted the help of over 150 Drum n Bass artists in the last 2yrs in the form of their beautiful music, from veterans like Peshay and Furney up to the new breed such as Trex, Leniz and Kleu, with their trademark artwork created by Mitekiss.
 
With the support of DJ’s such as Riya, Sweetpea and Telomic, each volume has had a continuous bonus guest mix and a full video documentary on their YouTube channel where each contributing artist talks about mental health and how it affects them or people they have known and supported, with each volume supporting a different mental health issue such as suicide, lockdown blues, young person’s mental health and most recently turning attention to how physical illness can become mental illness when pyxis’ own dad survived a 12 day coma.
 
Lockdown highlighted a brand new breed of mental health victims, from isolation and loneliness to fear and uncertainty. But one thing that was certain was that unity through music was a very solid and effective method of being together whilst being apart. It proved that the unity in community was able to thrive despite the inability to physically connect. It also showed us that whilst the use of social media can lead to some damaging aspects of debate and disagreement, it was one of the only ways for people to stay together and support one another through the very simple means of sharing music, videos, photographs and memories.
 
pyxis and the gang thank everybody for their continued support and this also includes all the DJ’s playing the music, the premier upload channels on YouTube and Soundcloud and of course all the people donating their music for free and the people who are buying and streaming.
