Tirelessly pushing the boundaries of techno as we know it, the British don has been carving out his name in gold letters amongst the pantheon of DJs capable to evolve and transcend both themselves and their audience through the cathartic power of music. Always a step ahead, Bicknell treats us to two hours of resolutely immersive and achingly powerful soul-search, seamlessly criss-crossing our brains with his top-of-the-range anti-bullshit techno medicine. Here is my set for Kerri Chandler's Kaoz theory night at Hemkade 48 during ADE 2024, i had a chance to open up the night and hopefully set a nice vibe.

To mark the upcoming release "Several Streams of Thought" - Steve Bicknell [@steve-bicknell] new album, due out on May 9th on double vinyl, with a limited edition including a 7-inch, KR3 joins forces with the British producer to deliver a mix that shares the album's title, capturing its spirit and essence.

This journey chronicles Bicknell's decades-long exploration of electronic music, reflecting his deep roots as a collector, DJ, and producer. Drawing from a wide palette of tones and inspirations, it offers a raw and honest snapshot of his constantly evolving sonic identity.

Over the course of 75 minutes, the mix shifts from bright atmospheres to textures of pure power, ultimately entering a dark, low-ceilinged tunnel before reappearing in blinding white, taking a deep breath, and continuing. 

It’s an intricate processing of various dimensions, featuring exclusive unreleased tracks from the 2x12" and 7" editions of the album.

True to their deep, widescreen approach to both production and live-performing, Parisian outfit Atomic Moog clock in with a helluva sleek and lushly relief’d mix, recorded on the occasion of their latest live performance at Outre Bleu on March 29. Through their releases for the likes of Delsin, Appian, Lowless or Monument, the French duo has been carving a niche for itself at the fringes of the dubbed-out techno tradition and abstract-leaning experimentality. This 90 minutes jaunt into their reverb and delay-heavy imaginarium has us moving across narrow corridors and cathedral-large spaces by turn, exploring the concept of spatialization in dance music under a new, boundary-pushing light. Through focal-shifting jumps between acid-drenched beds of rippling analogue sine waves and sizzling machine circuitry, the constant angle shifts from macro to micro tell a tale of vibrant sound research, not quite picking a side between the dance floor’s sense of purpose and genre-unbound, creative unintentionality.
