A Different Son

I sit down with Violet and talk about some of her early influences and music in Columbia as well as a local character Jerry Foster in her home town of Wooldridge MO. There is a unreleased recording of Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead Playing with Jerry Foster that were dubbed the Jerry and Jerry sessions. This was recorded at the Grateful Dead house before they started the band in the early 60's. This Episode runs a little long with some extra music at the end.

This song was inspired by the painting “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog” by Caspar David Friedrich, which shows a person standing on a precipice above a landscape of mountains and trees obscured by fog. When I saw it, I felt a kinship with the person in the painting - having come to many points in life when the path forward wasn’t clear - even from a higher vantage point. Though it can be lonely and confusing, there is also a harsh beauty to the mystery and hidden potential.

Wanderer

Ruth's music is steeped in both ancient traditions and modernist indie-folk. Her voice is trained and ethereal, unique and enchanting.
