Intimate Publics, Osheyack’s second album, is an homage to Shanghai, the city he has called home since 2012. Over the past ten years the producer has evolved from an avid club-goer to a key member of the vital soundscape that emerged from ALL Club and its predecessor, the now defunct club The Shelter. As hinted by the title, which draws on American social theorist Michael Warner’s work on publics and counterpublics, the album expresses a commitment to mining the utopian potential of club music, forging new worlds and generating future social relations, just as the artist bids farewell to the city at a moment of uncertain transition. While tracks like 'Edging' and 'Thrall' continue to present his signature collage of harder club music, the rest of the record reveals a shift to synthetic approximations of acoustic instruments. 'Still', the central track of the album, is a piece composed almost entirely of samples found on Vocaloid (a vocal synthesizer developed by Yamaha, commonly used to give voice to Japanese virtual idols). While echoing themes explored in previous projects, like the nature of realism and authenticity in a techno-mediated landscape, Intimate Publics is charged with an unexpected emotional candor and vulnerability, unveiling a personal side Osheyack is only beginning to explore.

“Stoked to release this brand new tape from St. Louis producer Elazy, who is creating some seriously blissful ‘n’ psychedelic glitch hop that falls somewhere between Dntel and Pleasure Systems. Major EP highlight and lead single “arson” is a winning blend of jangly bedroom pop and laidback IDM flourishes, as is the tongue-in-cheek “Sweater Song” reconstruction of “creepy friends,” which reminds us a bit of that collaborative EP by Gobby and EZB we dropped a few years ago.

Not many producers nowadays are creating this particular style of indietronica, let alone with such intricate sound design or enticing pop hooks. Overall, Elazy Does It! is a very promising statement by a rising soundsmith in the American underground (introduced to us by mutual friends and fellow PVers Can’t Read).

Réelle aka Yannick Pozo Vento wrote & recorded this album. Their sheer talent & brilliance as well as the complexity and range of emotions within their music is still blowing us away. The loss of such a beautiful human being was heartbreaking. We are so very thankful to Yannick's mother, Trude Pozo-Vento, and Yannick's friends Rachel De La Torre and Nadav Kirsh who have been working with us to make sure Yannick's artistry will be heard, felt and will live on.
