The Stevens - Hindsight

Paradise emerge from a summer slumber with a pair of new electronic guitar pop anthems. The London duo will release double A-side single, “Stars Shine Bright” and “I Can Feel Your Love” on November 18th via Dirty Bingo Records.

Their new single finds Paradise going deeper into the electronic realm, grappling with childish naivety with newfound samplers and synth.   

“Stars Shine Bright” was recorded on location in a sealed bunker known as A10/The Empty Parallel  (the spiritual home of Paradise & The New Legendary Children of Mu).  It is a rallying call for the youth, addictive and dense, pop hooks stitched and woven through breakbeats, drum machines, synths and guitar.

On a long hot summer night in 2012 a meeting of minds happened in Liverpool, England. Damo Suzuki visited the city to play a show with MUGSTAR.
After a flurry of e-mails Damo requested MUGSTAR not to practice or figure out any music prior to the performance, as he believed it should “Start from Zero”.
Leaving the whole performance to be entirely improvised on the spot.
It proved to be quite a night: the shamanic presence of the legendary Damo Suzuki immersed in the full-on, intense, sound of MUGSTAR - one of the leading bands currently exploring fresh and uncharted areas - as they forge forward through the deep space of kraut/psych.
The music that emerged that evening moved through driving, head-spinning double wah-wah attacks, eerie ethereal passages and on to an extended motorik coda, all powered along by thunderous bass and drums.
Damo settled in immediately, a master of his own unique art. Surging along with MUGSTAR as “sound carriers”, absorbed in the energy and atmosphere through to the shows exhausting end. It’s a great pairing.

The Hum comes eighteen months after the band's debut album Pearl Mystic - a record that steadily went on to become one of 2013's most impactful breakout statements. Even more ferocious and uncompromising than its predecessor and yet more melodic and focused than the band have ever recorded, The Hum further cements the band’s status as a vital force in British independent music.
Described by the band’s bassist MB as their attempt at “a really minimal two-note rager”, ‘On Leaving’ is six minutes of controlled power, the muscular drumming of new drummer JN gradually clambering up the notches through each repetition of the Leeds’ five-piece’s growling repeato-rock. Refusing to simply rely on a cyclical riff, the track is a testament to the subtle tangents that Hookworms constantly play off each other, keyboardist and producer MJ draping backing call and response melodies across the track, pushing onto more pop plains.

4AD group Merchandise has collaborated with Sub Pop recording artist Dum Dum Girls for the new “Red Sun” b/w “Echo” 7” single, an exquisite, two-track offering, available worldwide Friday, November 27th from Sub Pop.

“Red Sun” and “Echo” were both written after midnight. “Red Sun” is the story of love, power, and weakness. A 3 minute narrative about the mystery of human attraction and its hold on the psyche. “Red Sun,” played by Dee Dee, is half siren and half desert wanderer. She’s the temptress and the God of War in the body of girl who can make all men her victim. “Echo” takes place in the streets of Berlin. In “Echo” our narrator is lost in the madness of regret and lost love. In the warm streets of summer he’s frozen by his thoughts as if it were winter already. 

This new single was conceived Tampa, FL and recorded between Tampa, Berlin and NYC during the summer of 2015.

Apologies for the slightly late Postcard Club, me and Rich spent the weekend back in Weymouth and as a result everything feels a bit strange and out of sync. Anyway onto this week's Postcard Club which comes from Brighton noise-maker Theo Verney.

Having previously been on our radar thanks to an excellent debut release on Italian Beach Babes, we're delighted to be able to release 'Don't Care' as part of our Postcard Club. The track tears out of the blocks like Wavves pre-Fruit Shoot days and in the two minutes that follows, it doesn't once stop for breath. 'Don't Care' has got us extremely excited for whatever this garage punk comes up with next.
