The turntablist DL came through from Western MA to show his skills on the decks for this week's Playground episode. I led off the show with an hour+ of liquid and rolling vibes, getting a little grimy toward the end of my set. DL took over and dazzled us with his deft capabilities for an hour and a half of rollers, flavored with scratches and hip hop flair. I finished out the last half hour of the show, taking us back down after such heights.

Playground: Field Trip - Tribute to DJ NoMercy w DJ Kohaku + Shaolyn Relyk

Sunday night we brought Maine on the Field Trip, with DJ Kohaku and Shaolyn Relyk making the trek down to join SkullDuck, Miss Haze, and myself in our tribute to our late Trip Monitor DJ NoMercy.
  
SkullDuck and I tagged the first hour 15 with a dose of tunes inspired by Teddy, followed by a solid hour of liquid and rollers from Shaolyn Relyk. DJ Kohaku took over to dazzle us with soulful tunes and heavy beats. Miss Haze provided proper vocal accompaniment on the mic, and y'all danced till the lights came on making this one a night Teddy would be proud of. 

Thank you to Kohaku and Shaolyn Relyk for making the long drive down. It was a pleasure to meet you finally Shaolyn Relyk. Amber, I always appreciate you, your music, and your company. Thank you for being a great friend and a fabulous DJ. Shouts to Craig Rumble on the cdj3ks for the night. It's always fun to play on fresh gear. 

Much love and respect to everyone who has supported the Field Trip @ Zuzu so far. This was the best attended so far, and we've got more in store the rest of the year.

Boston-based producer/DJ American Dave came through the Playground studio to lay down a two hour set spanning genres from 140bpm and up. I opened up the show with a half hour of energy before American Dave took over and played his heart out for two hours. Then I closed things up with a bit more DnB.

WZBC's Friday night drum and bass host Dick Winter (Wintery Mix on 90.3FM / WZBC.org Fridays 10pm-1am EST) brought his array of drum and bass weapons to the Playground for a set so heavy-hitting, we had to restart the stream! In addition, we had a surprise special guest in FiyaFly, who I had the pleasure of hosting on her way back to Chicago after playing elements in Boston. Dick Winter plays the first 90 minutes here then I take over for a bit before FiyaFly and I tag through the rest of the nearly five hour stream.

I had planned a week off from streaming, but the launch of a fundraiser/merch preorder and my mixer miraculously working properly again lured me onto Twitch for a nearly three hour pop-up stream. I took the flow wherever the tunes on my drive led, as my Rekordbox computer is still under reconstruction. I got so into the beats I managed to flip an EQ fader cap off into the ether (as clipped in the preview image here), but the mix went on!

Playground Episode 212 - Solo Show - July 27, 2025

Mr. EyesLee is a Boston-based DJ specializing in the soulful side of jungle and DnB, matching vocals and basslines with three deck blends and cuts to bring the listener on an auditory journey. Mr. EyesLee plays sets full of blends and moods from 160 bpm and up, taking the listener on a journey from start to finish. Whether 160, jungle, liquid, or rollers, he always has a heavy focus on basslines that move the crowd, wasting little energy as he blends tracks and themes and keeps the dancefloor wanting more

After coming up through the southeastern US rave scene in the late 90s/early 00s, Mr. EyesLee now primarily performs around New England, currently holding residencies at elements (the longest running single-venue DnB weekly in North America) and Playground: Field Trip in Cambridge, MA, and has played events from small weeklies, to long-running monthlies, and large festivals from CT to ME. Highlights include Tropical Dreams in Sturbridge, MA, Tight Crew raves in Providence, RI and Boston, MA, and opening support for acts such as BCee, Degs, and Paul T & Edward Oberon. 

In addition to live shows, Mr. EyesLee also runs the Playground, “Your Sunday destination for dnb, jungle, and other high tempo tunes”, streaming Sundays 8-11PM EDT, on Twitch.tv/MrEyesLee, and first Sunday live Field Trips at Zuzu in Cambridge, MA, with guests having come from around New England and beyond in 200+ shows and counting. The Playground focuses primarily on Drum & Bass/Jungle and associated subgenera, letting DJs showcase their take on DnB. Guests have come from around New England and beyond, with every state in the region, along with CA, NY, NJ, and VA, having been represented at least once among the 200+ weekly shows to date.
