I'm Not Sad Anymore ft. Johnny Parrish

“CAN’T STAY SOBER” is that late night feeling of being alone and wanting to escape through the motions of being inebriated. Whether you are sedated or not, it’s wanting an uncontrollable itch to be scratched, but the feeling is constant. The “high” is for the listener's interpretation, as it could embody a person or any vice one might be dealing with. To achieve that high you’d do almost anything to feel something humanly possible and when you do feel it, that moment of embracement is euphoric.

Haunted Continents and River Hooks have organically created a project that feels honest and sensational. Haunted Continents is the solo project of Connecticut based singer-songwriter James A.M. Downes. River Hooks who is based in Harlem, NY is the singer-songwriter and producer of her own releases. 

The two artists have known each other for some years now, through working closely together on James A.M. Downes projects. River became a fan of James’ work in 2017 when he released his debut EP Prison Font. She then took notice of Haunted Continents and easily gravitated towards his familiar eloquent lyrics, lush guitar beds over new-retro progressions and endless narratives. It was in 2020, after listening to River’s self-produced debut EP 11:11, that James' attention was caught by her ethereal sounds, effortless melodies and honest lyrics. It was through their mutual respect of each other's work and wanting to make a sonic world that lied between their own, that made this collaboration unimaginably obvious. Even through their known obstacles of working within a pandemic, stuck remotely in their home studios and creatively unaware of each other's workflow, the process was just as seamless from the beginning to end. 

“CAN’T STAY SOBER” takes inspiration from the collaborative project Brent formed by Chelsea Cutler and Jeremy Zucker, along with their admiration towards Phoebe Bridgers, Samia and Bon Iver. The artists, both rooted by their acoustic guitars and authentic musical sensibilities, resulted in a timeless track. Both are eager to continue this new creative relationship and are delighted by what their future holds as they forge new ideas and promising releases.
