Some of my favorite tracks that I've come across on Soundcloud in the 4/4 house/techno vibe.

Ryan Crosson’s Part II—the latest installment in his three album set with NFI recordings—leaves behind the first LP’s cinematic horizons in exchange for the somber realpolitik of darker atmospherics and sound design. If Part I looked to the empty, open spaces of an oddly Covid-evacuated world, Part II  examines instead the closed space of the self cut off from it. Granular sampling and synthesis become, in the conceptual scheme of the record, more than production techniques to process sound but rather tools by which to process the granularities of selfhood re-worked by Covid's dislocations. Still unwilling to commit to a full album of low frequency metronomes and rhythms (because there is no rhythm to our current life), Crosson’s Part II employs instead prepared pianos and dub leaning textures, while nodding to Ennio Morricone and the soundtracks of Spaghetti Westerns, to better approximate the out of tempo percussive and affective swings of the previous year.

Follow up single to Notes From Isolation.  Keeping in theme with the album series.

NFI Recordings launches in 2021 with a series of three albums from Visionquest founder and label head Ryan Crosson. Recorded between the lean, Covid months of May and December (2020), Ryan’s sonic triptych, inspired more by the cinematic expanses of empty New York avenues than the cramped netherworlds of Berlin dance floors, is his most personal work to date. Liberated from the tyranny of the kick drum, Ryan explores more explicitly the film scores, ambient, and experimental electronic music that have always tacitly inspired him. The result is a sound that feels especially sensitive to the introspective moods wrought by Covid’s solitary, meandering days. Studio experimentation, lo-fi guitars, heavy sub bass, astral planes of thick slowly morphing reverb, and the ever present comfort of white noise—all of these elements shift in the foreground of the horizon’s gray distance, untalkative, out of reach.

Known worldwide for his dance music record label and group alias, Visionquest, Ryan has been representing the Midwest in electronic music for over fifteen years and has toured the world extensively since 2007. Having remixed the likes of Tracey Thorn and David Lynch, Ryan is no stranger to cross-genre productions and the ever increasing landscape of contemporary music. Equally at home in the studio or a dusty warehouse, Ryan’s production and sampling practices depart from the worlds of house or techno by referencing musique concrète, Downtown New York funk, drone, ambient and East African jazz. While Ryan was born and raised on a steady diet of post-apocalyptic landscapes, dark warehouses, and the sounds of Plastikman, Matthew Dear, and Villalobos, Ryan continues to expand the horizon of possibility within his music by continually venturing outside of his comfort zone to explore new territory.

Just when you thought this release couldn't get any bigger... Swedish techno god Adam Beyer rolls in with a gigantic remix for Turbo, the first thing he's done for the Canadian label since his Stockholm Mix Sessions CD back in 2002. The energy swells and builds without ever breaking down completely, the train has left the station and it's not stopping for anyone, ever. Guaranteed massive... the only question is whether your party is big enough to contain this.

Just This 's first Various Artists aims to the research of a mix of sounds by producers from different countries, to a journey into a variegated world. Melancholic vibes, deep ambient atmospheres.

The second part of the Various Artists, gets straight to the point, reaching the dancefloor in a more hard and deep insistent way.

The first track ‘’Inside world’’ is composed by Hunter/Game, as a playful banger with a solid kick, brushed percussions and surging, subtly atmospheric synth pads that make the track dreamy while fierce.

The second one by Pisetzky comes with a strong, continuous 4/4 bassline and organic percussion from start to end, further on dominated by a hypnotic melody followed by a more romantic and dreamy motif full of longing melancholy and eternity.

The third one comes from Just This new Artist Altman, with a breaking mellow downbeat theme, it lets all squeaky sounds mesh nicely like a dream landscape opening up into a widescreen chord progression, with an epic build up.

Equal parts energetic, down to earth Detroit native and ultra-refined, musical aesthete, Ryan has one ear to the club and one ear far, far beyond. Known the world over for shape shifting, shoulder shaking tracks on groundbreaking labels including M_nus, Supplement Facts, Spectral, Wagon Repair, and his own Visionquest, Ryan’s production and sampling practices depart from the worlds of house or techno by referencing musique concrète, Downtown New York funk, and East African jazz. Born and raised on a steady diet of post-apocalyptic landscapes, dark warehouses, and the sounds of Plastikman, Matthew Dear, Magda, and Villalobos, Ryan’s DJ sets aim to expand the horizon of possibility without sacrificing dance music’s core element of sweaty, hedonistic fun. His unique musical vocabulary and tireless dedication insure him a place in the dynasty of forward-thinking techno transplants.

Alongside Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves, Ryan is responsible for the day-to-day running of Visionquest, one of dance music’s most cherished and eclectic imprints. Ryan and his partners in Visionquest have honed a whole new landscape of lush, organic techno and esoteric leftfield electronica. In 2014, Ryan oversaw the construction of Visionquest’s newest venture—their digital arm and sub-label Brachtune. Full of off-kilter, loopy and positively circus vibes, the tracks showcased on Brachtune will remind long-time friends and fans of Ryan’s early morning sets in the notorious “Tesh Club” basement.

In addition to his work with Visionquest, 2014 was Ryan’s most prolific production career yet, with a staggering number of releases on labels such as Darkroom Dubs, Mobilee, and . Highlights include Bricolage, Ryan’s hotly anticipated first EP for Visionquest, especially the labyrinthine, twisted “Club Chimes,” a heady collaboration with long-time friend and fellow Visionquest artist Cesar Merveille. The year also saw Don’t Be Left Out, a mix CD with another fellow traveler Matt Tolfrey, which has been described as “deep, diverse, and exciting all the way through.”
