Here's the recording of my recent gig at Paloma in Berlin. I played the opening for one of my all-time favourite producers: mighty Ian Pooley. A deep-house fueled warmup set with loads of classic tunes and recent and unreleased gems.

Phonica walks into the fall months, but by no means are we saying goodbye to Summer just yet. With a weekend ahead looking to be well into the late twenties we are looking for somewhere to get our sweat on one last time. Enter Grace Sands! 
Grace is not only a regular in our shop but also a London legend. Being one of the founding members of the DiY Soundsystem, she has been holding it down since the early 90's originally as well as one half of Digs & Woosh alongside the late Peter Birch. These days you can find Grace holding it down at her residency at London's queer warehouse party Adonis or all over the world playing the likes of Fabric, Panorama Bar, Kala Festival and NYC Downlow at Glastonbury to only name a few. For this mix Grace has brought us our sweat in the form of an hour of pure driven house, tech and acid mixed to seamless perfection. This is Phonica 112: Grace Sands.

This is our live recording from Saturday afternoon @ Serenity Now (doof / festival), consisting of some of our most treasured records we own. The perfect representation of the coming together of like minded individuals. A boutique festival, a couple hundred people, nestled a little out of Sydney in the most lush little valley imaginable. Over this weekend, the most incredible music was on display from literally every dj & live act. Our hand & heart goes out to Jordan (TSURA), Donna (Auntie Donna), Kyle, Aaron & the team for pin point programming & welcoming Pip & I into the Serenity family cause by the end, everyone really did feel like family. We all knew what we had just experienced was something extremely rare but magnificent. Please hit me up for any ID's.. Sharing is caring ;)

"Art and music are the same, they're just different dialects." The Chicago house music legend talks about co-curating the photo exhibit Walk The Night and nightlife's '90s heyday. 

Ron Trent grew up in Chicago, where he dreamed of being a musician from a young age. He would end up becoming one of the architects of the Chicago house sound and working alongside contemporaries like Chez Damier, and across the pond, Basic Channel. His label, Prescription Records, became a renowned purveyor of the deep house sound. He spread his vision from the American Midwest to New York, Europe and beyond. 

In this talk recorded live at Miami Art Week, Trent talks to Resident Advisor music critic Kiana Mickles about the songs and dance floors that shaped him in this early part of his musical trajectory. In addition to playing some of his favourite jazz, funk and disco songs, he reflects on clubs like Studio 54, Paradise Garage and The Warehouse, which he claims matured him as an artist and irrevocably shaped the trajectory of club culture. Trent was instrumental in co-curating an exhibit called Walk The Night (which premiered at this multidisciplinary event), a photographic homage to these spaces and other historic clubs around the world.

Ryan Sadorus aka 'Ryski' began the label BerettaMusic and sub label Beretta Grey with label mate, Brian Kage. His productions range from quirky house numbers to full on techno funk and deep, moody tech house. Having grown up in the midwest and later traveling the world in the military has given him unique insight into his own life and into his own perception of electronic music. He has DJ'ed in Japan, Guam, Hawaii, and all over the U.S. including an appearance at Tronic Treatment in NYC and several times at Motor Detroit.  Ryan lived in California for 17 years and has recently in 2021 relocated back to the motherland, Detroit.  His level of wonderlust and living all over the world has given him a unique view of life and heavily influenced his music in every way, including the music and sounds of Japan, Detroit, Chicago and the deep soulful west coast vibes.  He has in 2021 recently relocated back to Detroit where he is closely collaborating with label mate Brian Kage and focused on bringing fresh new music to the world through their shared label BerettaMusic.
