An excerpt of gamut inc´s composition Planet Nine:

Planet Nine is a hypothetical planet in the far outer Solar System. Planet Nine does not have an official name, and it will not receive one unless its existence is confirmed. The predicted planet is most likely a mixture of rock and ice with a small envelope of gas.

Planet Nine is a spectral composition by gamut inc for five automated wind instruments and a hybrid organ of the Logos Foundation – the world´s largest robot-orchestra. The instruments are controlled by computer, but produce the sound acoustically. The woodwinds-ensemble consists of a tuba, a heliophon, a bassoon, an alto-sax and a bass-clarinet. They have filtering modes and pitchbends which allow a deep control of the timbral quality as well as microtonal tunings and glissandi-effects. <Hybr> —a hybrid organ— reflects the discourse of computer-driven music-machines, as it is a link between the acoustic and electronic soundproduction: its tubes are driven by little speakers inside each of the organ ́s tubes, making it a hybrid indeed. 

Planet Nine is written mainly in just intonation and has a fractal structure, where each subdivision of the overall form reflects the main divisions‘ characteristics. For this we use Supercollider´s recurssive semi-automated patterns, that we finally align to our preference. Thus the composition-method is an automat itself.

Some pipe organs offer an interface, which allows all its parameters to be controlled by computer, while the sound is still created in the pipes of the organ. In this way, a meshing of instrumental and electronic music can be achieved.
The international concert series AGGREGATE exposes this potential for artistic innovation in organ music.
