Orgelpark, Amsterdam, 2012, organ and live electronics. Performed by Matthias Havinga (organ), Gerben Gritter (bellows) and Wouter Snoei (electronics). Commissioned by Stichting het Orgelpark.
Organism was written for the Van Straten organ at the Orgelpark. This unique replica of a 15th century instrument is in mean tone tuning, and with hand-driven bellows. Organism explores the instrument, focusing on the air flow and how it brings life into the machine. The piece was later adapted for the "NCRV" organ at the Nicolaaskerk at Utrecht for the Gaudeamus Muziekweek. The piece will also be presented at the ISCM World Music Days at Wroclaw, 2014

Some pipe organs offer an interface, which allows all its parameters to be controlled by computer, while the sound is still created in the pipes of the organ. In this way, a meshing of instrumental and electronic music can be achieved.
The international concert series AGGREGATE exposes this potential for artistic innovation in organ music.
