Crissy Criss - Trinity Vol 1 EP

When a Crissy Criss release drops, it’s time to pay attention. As one of the UK’s most prominent faces of bass-heavy music, his 1Xtra show has consistently proven his position at the cutting edge of dubstep and D&B. And with that on his CV, you know his own productions always have to push the boundaries just a little bit further.
First on the agenda is Superstar. Opening with filtered
percussion and a vocoder hook this joins the dots between
eighties electro and its love-child, trap. Then a
squelching bass and driving beat kick in to tie everything
together in a full-fat drum and bass drop. This is 2014
music, tying together strands of multiple bass-led genres in a typically Crissy fashion.
Then we have Rinsin’ Selection. A dark-tinged introduction builds a claustrophobic atmosphere, ratcheting up the tension to breaking point. Then the drop explodes onto the scene, opening up the track into a techstepping floor-filler. Tightly programmed beats and percussive chords keep the energy high, guaranteed to get the rave moving.
Finally, the Deadexit rework of Let Go. After two slices of D&B, this is where Crissy indulges his other passion, dubstep. Expansive strings and reverberating samples swirl around the mix, elements separating and recombining until they resolve into the screwface-inducing drop. As expertly-crafted call and response patterns drive the track through the bass and mid-range, it’s clear this is one for the dancefloor.
Over this EP, Crissy Criss has delivered his signature combination of everything that’s current in the world of bass-heavy music. Drawing from dubstep, trap, and D&B, this release demonstrates the state of the art right now, so is bound to find a place in any set wherever dancefloors require basslines.

This EP comes from NYC producer and DJ, Sleepyhead. Cleverly titled "Untitled", the five tracks are quintessential HOUSE tunes. It's jam packed with warm and lush pads, heavy subs, sparkling leads, swung drum machines and percussion. All of the songs are so catchy, we've had them stuck in our heads since we've received the demos. Now that the record is out, we hope it will be stuck in your head too.

From its headquarters nestled in the bustling cityscape of San Francisco, MalLabel Music is poised to unleash an incredible compilation. At a colossal 25 tunes, this whale of an anthology is a perfectly balanced collection of some of the brightest rising luminaries in the business of beats and bass. Artists on the camp are global in origin, ranging from Bay Area heads all the way to South Africa and Russia. Whether you are a seasoned DJ looking for choice new drops to slay the dance or just looking for some boss new beats to get your groove on to, Saucerface 2 is must have.
The musical milieu is impressively robust, the artists and work selected scratch a satisfyingly wide array of musical itches. Off the top, there are some hard hitters on this album worthy of attention such as South African artist Real Mad, who represents his skills with club banger “In the Flow.” Following suit, young badman from the Bay Area Taso adds a sweat inducing, hyper drive bass burner to the mix with “Yogabooty.” The compilation boasts much in the way of progressive, lavish, listenability in tracks such as Bleep Bloop’s deep and sultry “AM,” SF artist Porckchop’s lusciously moody “Purpose,” and Skriptah’s “True Enemy,” worthy of comparison to early Eskmo or Distance. MalLabel resident Skulltrane provides a bit of her token mojo in the mechanical and slithery “Time Machine,” while El Diablo &amp; Mycho kick out a hyphy bouncer with their track “Little Pills.”
Releases of this size can often become less a listening exercise than a simple pocket of different bits of music, but Saucerface 2 is a true music lover’s comp. This compilation is 25 tracks than you can set on repeat and let define the backdrop of your springtime. From start to finish, Saucerface 2 is a testimony to the veracity and staying power of MalLabel music, now living out its third year in full effect with a release schedule that would whet the appetite of any bass junky who could catch.

Apparat, aka Sascha Ring, will release “Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre)”, an album of music based on Sebastian Hartmann’s theatre production of Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

Sebastian Hartmann is considered one of the big innovators of contemporary German theatre, and asked Ring to contribute to this mammoth project, which was commissioned by the renowned German arts festival Ruhrfestspiele in Recklinghausen.
