I played 17:00 - 20:00 on sunday night after @anouschkardt and before bunch of legends @djnobu_bitta @sandrien @dvs1 @dasha-rush @freddy_k_berlin @peter-kuschnereit & @jakojako_live 
The atmosphere, the vibe, the sound, the lighting and the dancers at this event were beyond 🤌🥰, one that will remain in my books for sure! Thank you to the two crews for hosting me amongst a crazy lineup!

JakoJako (@jakojako_live) always wanted to make music and her self-confessed hyperactivity ultimately led to her getting the most joy out of playing about with machines and patching up synths. These days the Berghain resident is a celebrated live act and DJ who draws on the considerable knowledge she picked up working at Berlin's legendary synth shop SchneidersLaden, but she has also worked on several high-profile motion sensor dance projects at places like The Royal Albert Hall. Her smart sound designs and unique rhythms have landed on Leisure System, Tresor and Figure and she has a new EP coming on Mute this June.

Her mix for us this week features a sneak preview of one of the tracks from that EP as well as mixing up music from Alaric, Siege, Altinbas and many more. It's full of high-speed sounds couched loosely in techno but with moods and textures borrowed from industrial, minimal and even trance as things reach an emotional peak late on. Though she broke through as a live act, this set shows JakoJako can now speak just as freely through the decks.

@oscarmulero is one of those artists whose sound is immediately identifiable. It has had an unwavering depth, headiness and atmospheric richness to it for more than 30 years, which is a remarkable achievement few can match. A famous non-conformist, the Spaniard's top-tier three-deck mixing skills and ability to distil techno to its most hypnotic form have also long stood him apart, as have his Polegroup and Warm Up labels.

Mulero's consistency of sound means you know what you're going to get with this mix: spaced-out, layered and deep techno brilliance. Whether more dubby and roomy or glitchy and intense, it's music for both mind and body from one of the scene's most low-key but high-class veterans. Turn it up loud and look forward to more of the same when he plays at Dekmantel Festival later this year. 

Dekmantel Mix 488 - Oscar Mulero

@fadimohem is right at the heart of contemporary techno. He brings his own twist on the classic sound - deep, rhythmic and atmospheric. He's a Berghain resident whose first contact with the genre came at the hallowed club, and since then, he has blazed his own trail on the most influential labels in the scene, including his own Mohem imprint. This year, he plays twice at Dekmantel Festival, once as part of WSNWG Live and once on the Radar stage.

Ahead of that, he has put together an exclusive one-hour live set comprised only of unreleased music. It's a masterclass in control that embodies just what you get from Fadi in the club: deep techno planted firmly on the floor but always going somewhere. As dubbed out low ends, glitchy textures and more tripped out melodies come and go, the tension ramps up while both body and mind stay locked.

In loving memory of Mariana Nobre Vieira. 
I had known that I would drop Skream's remix of La Roux 'for the kill' as the closing track as soon as I was asked to play Lecken in March 2020 and was very excited for this as I felt it embodied Lecken so well. Once I dropped the track I ran out into the dance floor to enjoy it amongst the Lecken ravers and I shared my favourite memory with Mariana dancing, hugging and crying. 

Here I share some words from the Lecken Collective:
Mariana will be remembered as a beloved and integral member of the arts, dance and performance communities in Lisbon and Berlin. Her passionate commitment to collective practice and what she lovingly called "a state of rave" will be deeply missed by the collectives she was a part of—Rabbit Hole, Lecken and Ravelength. 

"When I rave I can watch myself watching myself watching the world melt down and build itself up again. Does this world build itself up again in the same way every time or will we one day be taken through a wormhole into a glitch in the matrix, a parallel universe where there is milk and honey and social welfare and basic income for everyone? And there is so much fucking love and so much fucking despair being rendered and spun together and touched and sweated out, all that excess love and that excess despair that doesn’t find its place in the world of people because it is just too much it is so much that it cannot be contained it will not be contained it needs out, out! to get out, where does it go to, where is it flowing into, it must be flowing somewhere, when will the wormhole take us to that glitch in the matrix, that parallel universe where there is milk and honey and social welfare and basic income for everyone? 
Although it may lead to a form of ecstasy where the excess energy, love, laughter, despair
and tears contained within our systems may be released and shared, to be in a state of rave is not equivalent to being in a state of ecstasy. 
To rave also means to support and call something forth, to engage with the dancing body in order to propel and support ideas and ideals with madness and enthusiasm. As an author I aim herefrom to keep working from a state of rave, looking at the stage and the dance floor as sites for rituals of passage, cleansing, confusion and transformation to be devised, offered and shared; upheld and supported by the stomps of feet dancing to techno beats." Lecken Reconstruction / Club Quarantäne

This mix was made especially for my technodrifters far & wide in time for the Winter Solstice and the Grand Conjunct. The idea was to press play at 18:30 & drift, with the ending being aligned with the Saturn & Jupiter Conjunction at 19:37 CET. The tempo is 128bpm throughout - the optimum drifting tempo. There are added vocals throughout the mix with particular meaning & attached to specific memories of the ghosts of our ravey pasts. 

The call to arms from Maria Scaroni, technodrift creator:

'Technodrifters it’s the darkest time of year. If you have a bit of a pagan, either undercover or outed spiritual practice, you know these days are for planting intentional seeds for the returning sun. We will dance away assessing 2020 and dance intentions and wishes towards 2021. Sophie conjured a mix just for this purpose, so there is much power given already to the collective mind.

This drift is dedicated to Mariana, who vanished at the end of summer leaving many longing to have one last dance with her. A sunshine. May this dance serve your grieving in tender recognition.'
