Passionate about Moroccan musical heritage, he revisits and remixes the great classics of Moroccan music—whether folk, popular, or urban—giving them a modern, electronic twist that bridges generations and styles.

Maghreb Connexion — The Story of a Moroccan Rap Legend

Hatim El Ghardouf and Marouane Johar, aka Lcrappo and MeemJeem, grew up together in the city of Beni Mellal.
Fascinated by the hip-hop wave coming from Europe and the United States, they began imitating Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre at a young age. From this shared passion, their first group, La Conquête, was born, with which they won several local rap competitions.

 Gradually, the two rappers began writing their own lyrics, this time in dialectal Arabic.
The release of their first Moroccan rap album in Darija, "Wakia," by the Salé-based group Double A, deeply inspired them: they realized they weren't the only ones wanting to give a Moroccan voice to hip-hop.

In 1998, the group renamed itself Maghreb Connexion and added a third member, Redouane El Argoubi, aka RedMojahid. That same year, they performed for the first time on stage at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, at the invitation of a cultural association.

In 2000, they released their first album, "Maroc Connexion," with a production company specializing in popular music. Despite the constraints imposed, the track "Mouhal" was a resounding success and brought the group to the attention of the general public.

 The year 2001 marked the preparation of their second album, but also the beginning of their troubles: the producer imposed a four-year contract with only 10% royalties. That same year, Maghreb Connexion was invited to perform on stage at the Boulevard des Jeunes Musiciens, the biggest event in the Moroccan emerging music scene at the time.

In 2003, the group disbanded due to financial difficulties and RedMojahid's departure to France to continue his studies.

MeemJeem then began a solo career, while Lcrappo decided to put music on hold.

A few years later, MeemJeem returned with a solo album in collaboration with LBlok Prod, a collective from Casablanca and Beni Mellal. He also appeared on the compilation "Maroc Freestyle" by the famous DJ Cut Killer.
For his part, Lcrappo turned to production and artistic management, supporting several BM City MCs.

 In 2009, the group made a remarkable comeback with a performance featuring all three founding members—a symbolic moment that rekindled the flame of Moroccan rap in Beni Mellal.

Today, Maghreb Connexion remains a legend of Moroccan hip-hop, recognized as the first group to record a rap album in a studio with 100% Moroccan lyrics and compositions.
