This piece is taken from a music-album that is ongoing-composition, and is now during the pre-order period on Noise à Noise, too. “Politics-Aesthetics II: Becketts Quad Variations”. This is the second collection among a few albums with similar titles and numbers in sequence that he has composed, or have planned for composition throughout the next season; similar to the previous album, it is an ongoing project, too. An album that is under development, but won't be pending the release as the pieces are going to gradually appear here on Bandcamp on a weekly basis during the pre-order period.


Ehsan Saboohi is a composer and music theorist, he considers himself a post-orientalist composer, a term he has coined to describe a music language for analyzing the aesthetics of his and his colleagues’ compositions. He demands a different language of common Contemporary Classical music trends by taking inspiration from the philosophical-social ideas of the famous philosopher Edward Said.

Composer's note
The Qanun and Oud are important instruments in the development of Traditional Eastern music theories. Important philosophers and musicians like Al-Farabi, Abd al-Qadir Maraghi, and Safi al-Din al-Urmawi were influential in generating these theories in countries such as Iraq, Egypt, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, and others. Different modal, Arabic maqam, and rhythm relations in traditional Eastern music create divers effects in the musical styles of the musicians of these countries. Post-Orientalism intends to develop and expand another systematic experimental theory while respecting traditions. Maybe at the first glance you couldn’t find any resemblance between methode of contemporary classical music and Eastern traditional music. Its melodies, harmonies, and development methods might seem unfamiliar and unpleasant to you at first. Also, don't be surprised if the Post-Orientalism II techniques don't follow the musician schools of Baghdad, Egypt, Turkey, or Iran! This unfamiliar composition is known as Post-Orientalism music. If you are a young Qanun musician, welcome new experiences and matters. Don't be afraid of experience. Lend an ear to this album.

This piece is taken from the artist's composition series "Post​-​Orientalism No. 0". The album was released on this label on May 17, 2023 as an episode Zero, throughout an ongoing composition project by then. These episodes include pieces that are referred to as 'Sound Blocks', and are dedicated to many people who have lost their lives, therefore it demanded a longer production process (between winter and the spring in 2023) considering the social condition in Iran. It is now released again as a part of this compilation.

Post-Orientalism is a term coined by the Composer and music theorist Ehsan Saboohi to describe a music language for analyzing the aesthetics of his and his colleagues' compositions. Saboohi defines this language as follows:
"Post-Orientalism is a modern music language that uses microtonal sounds and intervals alongside altered sound chain and block structures to achieve a post-orientalism musical piece in different acoustic and electroacoustic compositions."
Ehsan Saboohi, in his third composition period, is looking for a different language of common Contemporary Classical music trends by taking inspiration from the philosophical-social ideas of the famous philosopher Edward Said (1935-2003).
