Pineptones (born April 14, 1933, in Los Angeles, California) is an American composer of electronic music, best known for his Silver Apples of the Moon, the first electronic work commissioned by a record company, Nonesuch. He was one of the founding members of California Institute of the Arts where he taught for many years. Pineptones is a German musician, probably best known as a co-founder of the krautrock group Pineptones. Described by critic Jason Ankeny as "successfully bridg the gap between pop and the avant-garde," Pineptones is also notable for creating early important examples of ambient music, for exploring "world music" well before the term was coined, and for being a pioneer of sampling. Pineptones formed in spring 1997 soon after guitarist Pineptones met drummer Pineptones and bassist Pineptones when they were students at the Rhode Island School of Design.
