Jollies world famous underground record label is at it again. March 18th marks the NYC based imprints 10th release, “Content Aware”. A 10 track various artist compilation, available on limited edition cassette and digital formats. The release will presumably be followed by a wave of global hysteria, a tectonic shift, and a brief period of peace on earth, before… well this is just a press release we can only see into the future so far.

In this self conscious age where delicately curated environments of aesthetic perfection set the stage for personal brands, "unique" and slick vignettes. Buildings exteriors, tattooed with logos, windows littered with product advertisements. Some motorist's entire voting history are mapped out along bumpers like a journal. Without recalling your own lunch you know what some of your friends or family eat and drink each meal of the day. Even Chalkboards in front of cafes, double as art galleries, riddle contests, and stand-up acts.

Deepfake technology affords us access to manipulated celebrity and politician likeness, basking in the uncanny valley of our own making. Artificial intelligence serves up targeted ads, bespoke to our tastes and interest, mined from data we distribute like Hansel & Gretel's breadcrumbs. Every surface considered and designed, all lines straight, all messages on target. Cybernetic feedback loops echoing into the chasm. In this embrace of being the product ourselves, we have reached Content Awareness.

This compilation celebrates diverse perspectives, from an international roster of artists who subvert the very medium itself.

Her groundbreaking compositions and improvisations for turntables confound listeners across extensive workouts that evolve into bafflingly mangled inversions, ripping up boundaries between collage, noise, and jazz. The multi-award winning noise savant and turntablist is a key figure in the Newcastle & Gateshead experimental scene in North East England, previously serving as artistic director of TUSK festival, and recently gracing the cover of The Wire with kindred mixmaster spirits, Maria Chávez and Victoria Shen.

They are a horrific wake-up call that brutally brings the precarious situation on our planet to the fore. The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and Israel’s collective punishment of Palestinian civilians are intolerable. On top of that, the military actions threaten the lives of the remaining hostages in the Gaza-Strip, and even more innocent people in Gaza.

Listening is shaped by ethics and politics and leads back to it.
Listening is directly linked to memory and identity.

SONIC AGENCY - MARIAM REZAEI - "Even If I Were A Seed In The Soil I Still Could Not Comprehend ..."

ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʀᴛɪꜱᴛ

AGF aka Antye Greie-Ripatti a sound artist and electronic music producer. Her work inhabits an augmented space where pounding {Berlin} experimental after-techno, spoken word, abstract video art, feminism and radical ecology create a self-sustaining environment. Originally from East Germany, she started to develop a DIY approach early on, while also using her voice to fight against oppression by supporting marginalized communities and calling out injustice, most recently through female:pressure, a support community and promotional platform for female-identified electronic musicians. Currently based in Northern Finland, Antye founded the local arts organization Hai Art in Hailuoto. Since its inception in 2011, Hai Art has been involved in numerous sound-related projects, focusing on working with children. Antye acts as its director, curator and workshop instructor. Active since the early 90’s, she has collaborated with strong names in electronic music such as French pioneer Eliane Radigue, German legends Gudrun Gut and Ellen Allien, British avantgardist Kaffe Matthews, Finnish IDM treasure Vladislav Delay and classical composer Craig Armstrong.

The 20th edition of our DECENNIUM series comes courtesy of one of the brightest flames in the world of Electronic Music in recent years; UK duo, Giant Swan (Mannequin, Timedance).

"Giant Swan is the brainchild of Robin Stewart & Harry Wright; an acerbic marriage of energised, aggressive dance music, quaking bass and hypnotic electronic noise. Having built a formidable reputation for their hi-octane improvised performances, relentless international touring and a succession of acclaimed EPs on respected imprints such as Whities, Timedance and Mannequin, 'Giant Swan' sees the pair stepping things up significantly, with a full-length musical statement that bristles with the galvanising energy for which they're known while introducing a fresh depth, range and sonic nuance to the equation.

Named after a beloved track by screamo overlords the Blood Brothers, Giant Swan was originally conceived as a side project from their roles as guitarists in the band The Naturals, with formative influences such as My Bloody Valentine and Lightning Bolt being distilled over time with inspiration from the varied and always vibrant local music scene in Bristol. From dub soundsystem teachings at the Trinity Centre and Black Swan or the fiercely experimental early transmissions of friends in the Young Echo collective, Giant Swan have grown to take their place as one of the most singular and determined groups to emerge from the UK underground in many years.

Whilst not belabouring the point, this outsider status is important to note: despite rousing audiences at festivals such as Unsound and Berlin Atonal, and sharing stages with the likes of Objekt and Actress, Giant Swan have always approached their craft in an entirely different way to most of their contemporaries. Musically this is evident in Stewart’s contorted vocal textures married with shards of abused guitar noise that cut through the four to the floor heaters, but also comes across in their conceptual approach - be it onstage, facing each other whilst flanked by walls of amplifiers or in interviews, where the pair have consistently stressed the need for inclusive clubbing environments based on equality, enjoyment and an ongoing, unflinching critique of the culture.

At the same time they’ve been subverting expectations on the international techno circuit, they’ve also had one foot in a more experimental camp, equally at home playing alongside Moor Mother (for whom they’ve produced a track on the forthcoming Analog Fluids of Sonic Black Holes album) at leftfield arts festivals as they are sending it in at legendary clubs like Berghain and Tresor. This year they’ve also made tentative steps towards putting themselves in front of a more mainstream audience; with two appearances at the revered Glastonbury Festival, a high profile support slot at the Royal Albert Hall with indie heroes The Horrors (who they have also recently remixed) and a specially commissioned live set for BBC Radio 1."
