"Stuck in the 9-5 grind, stifled by the impersonality of constant social media and mobile interaction, contemporary urban life can be suffocating. For a certain breed, release cannot be found in the vast, unpopulated great outdoors. Urban Animals congregate in heaving warehouses, seeking solace in the liberating beats of the kick drum. They are bound not by association, but through a shared experience of primal relief felt in those shadowy, dance floor corners swelling with the sounds of low end frequencies and brazenly sculpted grooves. This is the Urban Animal’s jungle.

Claude VonStroke’s third original album and the 100th release for dirtybird is indebted to this bold and bestial inner-city lifestyle, but it’s also a product of its creator; a unique subspecies steeped in that San Franciscan sound, intersecting unknown terrain on instruction of the inimitable dirtybird label boss. Just as Urban Animal’s artwork reconstructs photography of derelict city architecture from Detroit and the Midwest into three compelling animal portraits, so too has Claude VonStroke sampled unexpected sounds from his chaotic working environment to create the nine intriguing tracks that make up his full length composition. Think of VonStroke as a modern day, West Coast Frankenstein, his creature a rugged arrangement of the most discordant, unlikely parts whilst somehow brimming with beauty and human appeal.

Having recently announced their third LP, „Basic Colour Theory“, Pets Recordings’ label owners Catz ‘N Dogz proudly present the first EP of music to be taken from the album. A fine selection of evocative melodies and gorgeous vocals. 

The first EP that covers tracks “From Your Heart”, “Nobody Cares” and non-album track “Parallel Problems” emphasizes the albums extensive sonic exploration and signature songwriting, evoking particular moods and emotions through the production pairs choice of palette in design and sound architecture. 

Soaking up influence from archived recordings of artists such as Patrick Cowley, Tangerine Dream, Mark Rosen amalgamated with fascination of 70’s Polish soundtracks resulted in the dreamy collaboration “From Your Heart” with Peter, Bjorn & John; the Swedish indie-pop trio responsible for interweaving soothing electric guitar and ambient vocals between Catz ‘N Dogz crisp production and chugging Korg R3 bassline . Undoubtedly a key album standout for the pair. 

“Parallel Problems” continues as an exemplar of how Catz ‘N Dogz influential experimentations yields impressive results—tranquil and museful and awash with more far a field influence, yet capable of compelling dance floor turns with its metronomic beats and percussion. Keeping it up-tempo the rhythmic cut ‘Nobody Cares’ in line with the track's joyful nature shows the pair expressing their affinity with varying styles.

Taking firm lead of the Eastern European electronic music revolution, the pair, who have previously graced the cover of both Mixmag and DJ Mag Spain, have for some time been poised for significant success as their international recognition on the underground has never lacked momentum.  ‘Basic Colour Theory’ will add to the list of remarkable accolades the dynamic duo already have under their belt; joining their acclaimed Essential Mix in 2013, and weighty remixes for a who’s who in music electronic or otherwise, including Basement Jaxx, Kings Of Leon, Thomas Schumacher, Friendly Fires, and Kim Ann Foxman, not to mention their two previous LPs.

As one of our most beloved Dirtybird Players, Justin Martin travels the world week in and week out putting smiles on people's faces, always with an even bigger grin of his own. With his sophomore album, 2016's 'Hello Clouds', Justin proved that it's more than just fun and games - he's a seriously talented producer. 

His songwriting skills were on display with unique vocalists Charlotte OC, FEMME, and Lena Cullen, and his production chops were flawless on his solo tracks and collaborations with Kill Frenzy, Will Clarke, Ardalan and his brother Christian Martin.

Hello Clouds debuted at #1 on the iTunes Dance chart and Beatport's album chart, and hit #15 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums Chart the week after its release; these stats are a testament to the brilliance of the album and the way its diverse sounds resonated with fans both old and new.

While it can be argued that the original album was largely for listeners, there's no doubt that the Hello Clouds remixes are squarely aimed at DJs and dance floors the world over. Justin hand-picked the twelve artists who he thought would best reinterpret his work and, as with the original album, he's knocked it out of the park here.

Fellow Dirtybird Ardalan's epic version of the title track diverges from the basement vibes of Jakwob's mix, while the Christian Martin collab 'Midnight' sees a new day courtesy of both party-starters Soul Clap and life-of-the-party Doorly.

Justin opened his Campout set with Walker & Royce's explosive mix of 'The Feels', which also gets reworked by UK hero Low Steppa, and UK also gets another representation with Redlight’s mix of “Wet Cat'

South Africa's Kyle Watson turns the moody 'Odyssey' into a peak-time monster, while Little By Little gives us both a vocal and dub mix of the equally sultry 'Rabbit Hole.' Fresh-faced producer Lenny Kiser leaves his mark on the Charlotte OC single as well. 

Rounding out the package is a bona fide jungle remix of 'Back to the Jungle' by the drum-n-bass icon DJ Marky, along with a massive remix of the same tune from the one and only Chris Lorenzo.

When Claude was hunting for tracks to include in his ‘Live in Detroit’ album, he came across Chambray’s ‘Evenue’ , which ended up making the final mix in his recorded Movement set. When we reached out to him about it, the Berlin artist sent us 4 demos and we signed them all. 

With an influence from the early stripped down jack sound of the Midwest, Chambray’s productions add a polished style and wide range of musical character, both of which are in full display on his “Where You At?” EP. 

It’s not easy to create a ‘signature’ sound that both crosses boundaries and also appeals to them all, yet Chambray’s particular music feels effortless.
