Behind every art form there is a story. For the Flatbush, Brooklyn-born rapper Paulie, the art is influenced by a combination of loss, his surroundings and a talent for lyrical storytelling. Paulie's latest project, M.O.B. (Money. Opportunity. Business.) charts his uprising from a misguided teen to a more respectable young man—a transformation rife with challenges that he commits himself to daily. 


Paulie says he is equally influenced and relates his sound to that of musical pioneers like Jay-Z, Kanye West and TheWeeknd, also stating that he makes music that relates to the average black male growing up in America. Early songs about girls and day-to-day high school happenings built the foundation for more mature lyrics such as, “This the kind of life they tell you not live. But you don't get a reward if you don’t take risk. They said keep it a hundred and that’s what I did"—a line from M.O.B.’s "Go Get It". “It’s not preachy but there’s a message behind it,” Paulie says of his music; that message being that on the road to success you will have to get out of your comfort zone, make sacrifices and even detach yourself from anyone that is negative. “Even though I haven’t always lived the life I was raised to, I still have those convictions,” he says. “My goal has always been to be a musician and businessman.”

Paulie started working on M.O.B. in late-2014, recording most of the tracks at the Krematorium studio in Long Island with engineer Michael Ashby. Though Paulie happy with the outcome of, he is still working on new music. He’s always writing (on his iPhone or in a notebook) and gets in the booth as often as he can.  “I love it,” he says of being in the studio. “I feel like that’s where I need to be now.”
